Gates Sonic Belt Tension Tester STT-1

Here's some info on it :-

To accurately set the tension on many modern cars or motorcycles eg PORSCHE Ducati, Renault etc requires the ability to check the frequency emitted from the cambelt when plucked (like a guitar string).

Any other method of setting (guesswork) is liable to shorten the life of the belt, vary the valve timing & worse case scenario snap or de-rail the belt causing ££££££££££ of damage!

I'm not familiar with that its all down to what instrument you trust i guess. guitar tuning works on the same principle or ?

I think the instrument you use is your ears lol...

You play the down-loadable mp3 on your mobile phone or other device and listen to it while "twanging" your belt until you get the same sound while tensioning...

Apparently its meant to be very accurate, but personally I have not used it...
