Boxster, To buy or not to buy?

Post by Brucey »

Hiya everyone, as most of you know I trashed my beloved 944S the other week and am now looking for a Boxster. I have got an absolute max of £6500 and have realised that after looking at some £5000-£5500 ones that they are either unloved, thrashed, or cat D's. The question is I am going to look at one tomorrow that is only 2 miles away from me and I have spoke to the guy today and he seems very genuine, he tells me that it is in great condition in midnight blue (sorry not sure what Porsche call the colour but it is the very dark one), it has got a grey leather interior and has an OPC service history up to 96,000 miles and the rest up to the current mileage 114,000 being Loe Bank Motors. He wants £6195 and the car looks in real tidy order in the pics but the sticking point is the mileage. I have seen others with lower mileage but not the colour I wanted and usually scruffy (I really like this colour and black).
The big question is should this put me off? I only do about 5000 miles a year so I could keep it 3 years and still sell it with 130,000 miles on the clock. Everyones advice on this forum so far has been great so your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Andy Bruce.

I wouldn't worry about the mileage TBH if it has been serviced & looked after that is more important.

Drive it. If it all feels tight & it lifts when you boot it in second then it's a good one. It it won't pull the skin off a rice pud walk away. Thats kind of how I buy cars. It the salesman isn't scarred your not trying hard enough. Always helps to ask for discount when his knuckles are white & his fingernails are well into the dash.

Don't bother about the mileage. Check for the service history, and to me it's also important how many owners it has had. Both of my Porsches have only had one owner before me, both have had full service history, and have never caused me any real problems (real means expensive). I also believe, only because I'm sure I've read it on here, that the Boxsters are not as DIY friendly as the 944s are - which may be relevant to you........ that and the fact you're not a girl

Check the service history first, then take it for a test drive. You'll know yourself after that. If the car looks and feels good to you, no one will ever talk you out of it. Let us know how you get on.

PM Me if you are intereted in a 99 T, Guards Red Half leather, Bose, new tyres, 53k with paperwork to back it up,Straight as a die with the very odd mark.
I went to look at it yeterday, but after doing some sums i will have to sell one of my 944 t so it is not happening !
Based West Cumbria but well worth the journey, i reckon 7.4k would buy it.
No affiliation with the seller BTW.
