Fuel grading - 95, 97 or 98RON?

Post by unRAPIDdan »

Just a quickie - what fuel type are you all using in your Boxsters? I have a 2.7 and had been happily sticking normal (95RON) unleaded in it, until yesterday I took the time to read the sticker under the fuel cap! It states that an octane rating of 98RON or more should be used - so I have since been using super-unleaded.

Do you all have a preference - or is this a case that I really should be using the higher octane fuel?

Thanks in advance,

Dan.

This pops up on here every few months.

Opinion is split and as with most things budget determines what you use. But there is a false economy because you do get a few more miles with the 97/98 Super Unleaded and improved cleaning with the branded fuels. No matter what anyone says Supermarket fuel is at best market average when it comes to quality.

The sensors in the car adjust to run on the lower ron ratings.

Hi :)

The ECU can also adjust UPWARDS so that if you use VPOWER (98) it can advance the ignition and give you MORE HP.....

Use lower octane fuel and it backs off the timing and you LOSE HP....

All the best Brett :)

Thanks for the replies - interestingly I have noticed some extra 'pep' with the Vpower. I may wack a tankfull in as a comparison MPG-wise with the cheaper lower octane alternatives.

I'll let you know what it shows - if anyone's intersted.

Thanks again,

Dan.

sorry for the late reply just returned from northern ireland ,i have used tesco 99octane in my 944s2 and continue to use it in my 2.5 boxster,it is much better than standard un-leaded you can feel the difference.
while i was working in ulster last week i found a road which would be a nice drive for a porsche its called the sperin mountains this is a road between belfast and strabane think of the biggest rollercoaster you have be on or seen then multiply by 27 miles beware of sheep, cows and the odd horse in the road, unfortunately i had to do the journey in a hired peugeot 207 1.4ltr sewing machine it was a nightmare 2nd and third gear only in a lot of places.

have any of our members been on this road?
it was good to get back into the boxster and take her for a drive on friday evening with the hood down,no cows, sheep or horses to worry about.
