gearbox sump pan parts (996 tiptronic C4)

Post by Rob996 »

Hi All,
My sump pan on the gearbox has heavy corrosion and the view of the OPC was when it came round to gearbox oil change I may need a sump pan as from looking at it they could not guarantee to would go back. Looking at it I can see where they are coming from as there is some rust evident and it appear to be flaking in places. So it is booked it to a local recommended mechanic to have a look, but want to find a cheaper alternative to the OPC part, either a new patent part or a second hand.

Can anybody recommend any suppliers/breakers?

thanks in advance

cheers
Rob

Here's a few ideas:

Do you know how much a new one is? If not call Adam at Porsche Centre Bolton with your chassis nunber and find out how much they cost. Mention tipec and he'll do a reasonable price.

For a used one, Brian at Jasmine Porshalink is worth talking to, he may have one, as might Simon at 9apart or Douglas Valley (talk to Greame). All do mail order.

A few points. To change the sump you have to drop the fluid in the box. I would only trust either a good auto gearbox specialist or an OPC to refill it correctly. It isn't a job for a general mechanic as it needs special tools. I'd also change the filter whilst it is off & also reset the gearbox ECU.
The gearbox is a ZF one so not specifically Porsche so it might be worth talking to a few gearbox specialists as well as they may be able to source a sump through the ZF channels.

PS On my Boxster a fluid change & the box reset made a huge difference to the change quality!

Spoke to my local OPC today to get a price (with a TIPEC discount) the sump was around £225, with new sump and Gearbox service the total was £561.32 ouch!

Doing a bit of searching the web and it looks like the box is a ZF 5hp19hla so not sure, any gearbox experts out there who know if the variants (i.e. HLA etx) all share the same sump pan?

Rob. anyone with a PWIS can do it. Possibly disconnecting the battery will do it. It resets the DME.
