Heater fan stop starting on a 987 ?

Post by bill i am »

Ok let me see if I can explain my problem simply
The Heater fan didn't work when I got the car and didn't realise till I went out in the rain and I needed to clear the screen so I set about finding where it was and after removing the scuttle trims etc found it under the pollen filter which was duly changed ,put my hand in and turned it to see if it was stuck and it was free ,turned on ignition etc and still dead .
Went under dash and removed foam panel and found plastic cover removed this and tried again and bingo it burst into life ,good I thought replaced the cover and tried it again ,and nothing so started to take cover off with ignition on and it worked ,tightened one screw fine tightened the other and it stopped slackened it back a tad and it worked fine .
It has now stopped unless I leave the cover off completely !!
Anyone one else had these symptoms and cured it ?
It seems that if I push the plastic housing it will stop it but if I pull it ,it works .
Any input on this would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like a bad wire, connector or motor, that when the screw is tightened is distorting things enough to break a contact or cause the brushes in the motor to pull away.

Keep the cover off and try pushing and pulling on bits of trim and the motor to see what makes it work and what makes it stop, do this and the car will almost certainly show you what its not happy with in there.
Clean it, wax it, love it, ENJOY it... then fix it

Thanks Jon
I have tried to see if there are any wires etc but I simply can't see anything as it is such a tight area to get at , what's the procedure for removing the motor , dash out ?
I hope not :(
