Interested in a 964 but not sure what to look for

Post by Jon944S2 »

I'm now interested in buying a 964 C2 and I'm not sure what to be on the lookout for, like what the most common problems are and what is it like compared to my 944S2. All I am aware of at the moment is that it is £650 a year cheaper for me to insure than the 944 does anybody have a clue why?

I haven't a clue why, you may have been misquoted.

Is your S2 a cab?

Main thing with 964 is oil leaks and top end rebuilds at the 100K mark.

no it's a coupe the cab is even more expensive to insure lol.

surprised that I can even get insurance for a 964 let alone it being £650 cheaper can't figure it.

I am aware of the oil leaks that seems to be about my limitations of my knowledge of the cars.

I just got a load of the quotes off the autotrader site cheapest was £4,964 for me with a firm called idrive eco or something like that. I really want to find out how much it would be to insure a 964 and my 944S2 together because I was just driving it earlier and realized how much I would miss it if I sold it.

Yes, well £652 cheaper to be precise lol, I'm only a mere youngster at 19 and I've now decided to put buying a 964 on hold for a year or so, then hopefully I can insure both cars rather than one or the other. I don't want to get rid of my car I love it too much, sorry for that peoples.

Bloomin' 'eck - there's something to be said for being old and grey and past it - means I can get my modified 911 3.2 + modified 944T Cab + Mini 1275 S all for £676

I did think about that but all the insurance companies I rang said they would do one or the other not both or would charge something like £15k+ to do both, so I think I'll run the S2 for a year or 2 then buy a 911 and by then I may have even more savings to play with and might be able to get a 993.
Still quite disappointed though that I can't have both but I get plenty of time I guess to get a 911.

That's certainly what I would do in your position. The S2 is more than enough car as a first Porsche, and will give you a huge amount of enjoyment and pleasure. A move to the world of the 911 is altogether a different thing and you need to take your time. With each model there are a multitude of potential issues, and you can spend time researching and reading, looking at the cars and getting advice from those who have made the jump to a 911. That way, when your finances are in good shape you will be ready to move for the "right car".

In fact the process of looking at and learning is one of the most enjoyable part of the process!

My first Porsche was an S2 and i wish i could have kept it as well. Good all round car
and great for track days in this country where it often rains and 964s can be more risky to use.

Any 964 can be a money pit so well worth spending a year or two researching.
Rennlist is a great resource. If you can find a good one you wont want a 993 !
Some minor mods ( exhaust , suspension , Lightweight clutch ) make it a fantastic car.
