Key!

I realise this may have been done to death but:

Someone in the village has a boxster 2.7 on an 02plate but with the 03 bits , bigger bhp glass rear etc. it is a nice car, however the key, despite flasing, wont operate the door. Is this an opc job? Would love to be able to tell them not but as i read forums it days only the opc can do it if the key needs coding??

Will the key open the door using the blade. If it does then it may have gone to sleep, they do this as 120Hrs. Open the door, start the car, let it run for a few minutes & then switch off & lock it. If it had gone to sleep then the key should now work. Otherwise it'll need the key testing & maybe resyncing, that may need a Porsche PWIS which a lot of indies have these days.

Key opens the doors, starts the car, opens the gloveboxes and the locking box by the armrest!!! Just wont open remote! So is it an opc or indie job?

It is a shame really as the car is really nice, on 997 turbo alloys, black met paint, subdued tan interior but has to be unlocked by hand!

I had this and they changed the fob and reset it at the OPC. Not that expensive with a bit of discount.

Sometimes a new key is not needed.

When the Boxsters were first released Porsche were changing too many keys under warranty, so they looked into the issue and found that the key can become unsynchronised from the alarm system and in effect crash and repeatedly send the wrong codes.

Porsche told all the main dealers and a few select independents around the world, via a technical service bulletin, that the key may need to be reset and the simplest way to do this is to remove the battery from the key, flip it over the wrong way round and re-assemble.. use the buttons a few times, swap the battery back the correct way round and then unlock the car with the key, start the car, turn off the car and manually lock the car again, and then try the key buttons.

Having read the software in the alarm systems on Boxsters but not completely reverse engineered it yet, I found there is a loop which counts 5 times on locking intervals without an unlock which seems to reset several values in the flash memory, so on some cars where the battery swap did not work, I tried locking the car with the key manually 5 times in quick succession immediately after following the battery flipping procedure and then it has worked.

Try this, if it does not work, we can supply a new key head and program it, otherwise if she has the key serial number in her paperwork folder, we can try to re-program her current ones.

Interesting Jon the Jeep key does a similar thing. When it looses sync you just keep pressing one of the buttons & eventually after 10 or so presses it springs into life.
