Cayman engine bay

Post by WazzerM »

I spotted the article by John Persaud in the recent All Torque (pg.9) on the transparent engine cover for the Cayman and I think it looks marvellous and would love to get it done. BUT .... how do we think it might affect re-sale? and I'm guessing that it'd be a lot noisier inside? Looks great though, wada we think?

It looks fab, I saw in the flesh at the NEC. if I had a Cayman I would do it no problem. :)

Don't quote me but I think he said £900.

Just wondered ................... were there any cosmetic tweeks to the engine etc to enhance the view through the Perspex? :)

The article says in the region of £1400. To me it looks great - it's just the concerns over noise levels & re-sale effect (will it add to it's appeal / value or reduce?). Cheesy? Hmm, debatable but a Ferrari / R8 don't look cheesy! I wonder if JM can do this too? (would rather take it there)

Hi
Just found this from a company in Nottingham (Not Just Wheels) offering fitment of a glass engine cover and manifold painting etc and it looks a great job....... the engine compartment enhancements really make it look impressive.......... definitely not cheesy here!
Anyone decided to have it done? :)

Thanks, agreed - it looks fantastic and most likely will go for it when some spare cash! Need to check out the noise though - still want to be able to hold a conversation lol

Depends on how thick the perspex/plexiglass is..

This kind of thing can be made out of very thin (2-5mm) plastic, or thicker material (10mm upwards) and if it is made of thick enough stuff, it will still block out the high frequency sounds, such as white noise which are not pleasent sounds to have in the cockpit... all those pulleys with bearings, such as the aircon compressor, power steering pump, alternator and waterpump can make a horrible noise... which will generally be higher frequency sounds and white noise..

With an induction kit, you will improve the engine note, which will be a lower frequency sound, which will sound nice and will propagate through a plastic engine cover, which will add to the experience rather than detract it.
Clean it, wax it, love it, ENJOY it... then fix it

Thanks AGAIN Jon. This is a 'wish list' thing really - arguably I need to sort the other stuff out (oil etc.) first though.
