All I have done recently to mine is assign a technician to the car as a "down time" project they are responsible for.
Have done some work regarding intercooling though, which was one of the biggest stumbling blocks to the project (and never happy with solutions other companies have employed)

Not today but at the weekend took the Summer wheels off and put the winters on complete with 5mm spacers, now ready for through the winter use
. The winters are 17" and the summer 18" unless side by side it's not massively noticeable.

The air oil separators are there to allow the engine to breathe and digest the fumes created within the engine (and so not release them into the air without incineration) without allowing oil mist and droplets from also being consumed.
When they fail, they tend to allow the droplets of oil to be burned inside the engine, causing blue smoke, damaged catalytic converters and exhaust gas sensors.

Discovered that there's an issue of some sort with the coolant cap. Now tying to work out whether I've got the right one on or not. Will try to check the part no. after Jamie at JM gave me the one he thinks should be on (some kind of upgrade?).

Re: What did you do to your Boxster or Cayman today?
The spacers were a surprise I went to fit the wheels earlier and the front didn't fit over the caliper so spacers good solution. My Cayman is my daily driver, so winters should keep me on the road, ran winters on my BMW the difference is staggering IMHO, not just in the snow but colder days and wet surfaces the grip feels much better.WazzerM wrote:Oh .... and eerrrr .... winter wheels & 'spacers'. Re: What did you do to your Boxster or Cayman today?
Really common practice in much of Europe to run winter tyres and wheels, never seems to have caught on over here.
I think in Switzerland it is compulsory and you have to show you are running on the correct seasons wheels and tyres.
Half the trouble is over here you would have trouble buying winter tyres from most tyre companies and even we do not stock them (but can order them in) because no one ever wants to buy them... I do think the accident rate would halve in winter if we had to fit them here, their wet and snow performance is head and shoulders above the summer tyres that nearly everyone in the UK runs on.
But also you ideally need to be running a winter set of wheels, which can simply be a narrower set of wheels, the wider the wheel, the worse the wet weather performance.

Re: What did you do to your Boxster or Cayman today?
Someone bought me a SmartTop relay for the Boxster off of E Bay as a crimbo pressie. Just managed to fit it & took it out for a test, it works well. Also got the engine & box up to temp as well. The brakes were a shock after the Jeep they require a much harder push to stop!

Re: What did you do to your Boxster or Cayman today?
Took it out to Port Solent harbour for a coffee & oggle the super yachts! Actually, twas an excuse to see if I could hear evidence of my tappet / lifter problem - on idling, back at home, the sound peeked and I managed to record it on my phone so that when it doesn't perform at the garage tomorrow (when I need it to) I've at least got a recording. Perhaps, it's just an everyday rattle I can hear, Jeeeees I dunno.

Re: What did you do to your Boxster or Cayman today?
Brushed the snow off, and went for a 40 min drive as not been in the Cayman for a week or so, little bit light feeling on ice even with winters on but controlled, it was the first time I've driven the Porsche on ice so though it important to give it a try and see what the characteristics were, same as I did with the winters in really wet weather. The winters were great on just snow though and on a small incline.

Not very exciting but I wiped the paw prints off the bonnet and roof after cat with grubby paws found it's way into the garage and climbed all over it. I resisted the urge to take her for a spin - trying to keep the mileage down!

Re: What did you do to your Boxster or Cayman today?
Hi
Well having recently purchased my Cayman I've opted to have the Porsche VTS re-registered in my name and reactivated (insurance stipulation from Direct Line). So today Cobra tried a remote activation which failed! They then asked where I was parked and if it was in a bad signal area, I did tell them it was in my garage so I took it out and they tried again ........but it still didn’t work!
Got in touch with the dealer I purchased the Cayman from and it's now arranged I go to my nearest OPC so they can check it out. Hoping the dealer will resolve this problem.
Anyone any advice or experience with a similar issue with a Porsche VTS?
John

Winters to summers swap and removed spacers.
Will be selling spacers and winter wheels shortly as I won't have the Cayman next winter.
