Roof problems

Post by Happy (& retired) »

Hi, I have a 99 Boxster and seem to be having intermitant roof issues (raising/lowering) - anybody else had similar problems and can offer suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks :(

The most common problems are a defective microswitch in the parking brake, a defective microswitch in the latch and problems with the relay.

+1 to that. That's exactly what happened to mine (handbrake microswitch).
You can test the latch microswitch by pressing in where the latch closes - you can feel the microswitch in the recess.

You can take it to an OPC and expect £100+ bill, although I'm told (after mine had failed and I'd paid the £100), that it's something like £25 DIY job.

Agree however relays can play up and also the micro switch in left roof gear box, see if screen switch audibly clucks when pressed, easy DIY replaceable
