Saratoga Roof

Post by stew »

This was a bit of an impulse buy and I'm reluctantly thinking of selling this as its far too rare for me to use on my car and quite honestly the money would be better spent on other areas of my 924.

Polycarbonate type for manual 924/944 sunroof complete with what I assume is the original bag.

will get better pics when I get chance.

No hurry to sell, so it won't be alowed to go cheaply. Only PM me if genuinely interested. Thanks.

it is also on ebay, but unless it has reached good money with 24 hours to go I'll be closing the auction.

I’ve always wanted a Saratoga Top, but I’d need the electric roof version. And I wanted one in grey, not brown. And I can’t afford one anyway. D’oh.

and yes I'm aware what a reserve is for, however its my item and as long as I'm listing within the terms I've agreed with ebay why should there be a problem?

Because if I bid for something & I'm the highest bidder & I've bid beyond the reserve then I expect to win & get the item. Not have it withdrawn at the last minute because the greedy seller deems it hasn't reached a high enough sum & was too tight to pay the higher listing fees that a reserve attracts.
Within the E Bay rules it might be, dishonest practice definitely.

thats your view, to which you're entitled. However its not dishonest, and I'm not intending to withdraw it at the last minute, there will be at least 24 hours left. If ebays listing portal would let me I would clearly state on the listing that this is the case. Ebay get enough fees, especially if you include paypal under the same umbrella, because you have to offer paypal as a payment method don't you?

Alternatively I could accuse you of being tight and waiting until the very last moment to bid in the hope that you may get a bargain rather than bidding upfront and setting your maximum bid to what you're willing to pay.

Hi :)

I totally agree with Jim , what you are doing is REALLY annoying and to be honest not even in your own interest...

Example... last week I was bidding on a 928GT (not sure why but it looked stunning and was in a fantastic colour).... anyway I was lead bidder at £4850 and was prepared to go a lot higher, which normally happens in THE LAST FEW MINUTES.....

The seller pulled it with no explanation whatsoever and totally wasted all the time I had invested in asking questions, bidding etc....

I would NEVER EVER buy anything he sold again...

If you dont want to sell it fine.....just dont put it on EBAY!

Just so you know, that I know what I am talking about, I have bought over 350 items on Ebay and have 100% feedback and only ever sold one item, which went for a lower price than I wanted but thats a risk I took.... and so should you....

All the best Brett :)

The other point is, that the price you are expecting for such a rare item will be very high, possibly as much again as your 924!

You will have a small number of international bidders sitting there waiting for the last minute to bid. Remember this is an Auction!!

For you to get the best price you have to have the BALLS to let it ride.....OR put on a reserve as others have said.

Good luck!

I would rather sell my 924 and keep the sun roof! Easy enough to buy another 924

I tend to agree that listing without a reserve and possibly finishing early isn't going to do me any favours, but it may well help a genuine buyer. If somebody wants to buy it outside of ebay then there is the possibility of me allowing it to sell for less because I won't have to pay any fees therefore they get a better deal than buying it through ebay. If I list it with a reserve and take that cost then my room for movement on the price is less, therefore less of a benefit for the buyer.

Hi :)

Wow £850... good luck with that... any sunroof company would build a custom roof for half that price, but good luck with the sale...

Hi :)

The race team I worked for was sponsored by a sunroof company ....its not rocket science making or fitting a sunroof.

A manual sunroof like yours should be gold plated for that price....

I've spent much of my working life working for companies specialising in small batch component manufacture, mainly plastics and composites for motor sport and low volume sports cars. My roles have all been commercially biased, so I know how much things like this actually cost to make, not just think I know.

But if you think it can be done for half of the price I'm asking why don't you do the forum a favour and organise a group buy?

Oh and the mrs is a jeweller, so gold plating can be arranged.
