Got a bit hot

Post by lindsayhbrown »

Whilst taking my SSE back for some warranty work got stuck in the mother of traffic jams, 2 miles in an hour and a quarter, couldn't really switch the engine off as moving all the while, anyway watched the temp rise to just above the second white bar and the oil pressure at tick over drop to 1 bar with no warning light (normally 3 bar when engine at normal temp) and the engine getting quite hot smelling with according to the car following giving an occasional puff of smoke. It took about 5 miles of driving at about 60mph for the temp to get to normal again and the oil pressure gradually increasing as it cooled, my question is will this have any long term damage ?

In a nutshell no, you might want to check what oil they are using though?

They put Mobil 1 rally spec, 15/50 in the Speedster.

Thanks for the reply, it is Mobil 1, not sure of the viscosity though

Got a call on wednesday to say all warranty work completed on my 911 SSE ( 4 weeks), so told them I would be up on saturday to collect car, although they couldn't tell me exactly what work had been done :?: , trolled up this morning 3 trains and over 4 hours later I arrived and was told they were not expecting me ? After fetching my car from their workshop they decided it needed cleaning, a job I was told on wednesday would be done on wednesday ! A couple of the warranty jobs were mirrors not working and front blower fan also not working, checked these ok. One of the major jobs was difficulty selecting 2nd gear, pulled off the forecourt and no 2nd gear, eventually forced it in so I returned, and the chap who fetched the car from the workshop said he had problems getting 2nd gear but thought that was normal !! Went for a little spin and he reconfirmed the difficulty in selecting 2nd, as the boss was away he gave him a call and told him of the problem, I was then told the gearbox had been rebuilt and he couldn't understand there being a problem and he would look into it when he returned, so off I drove in their courtesy car and await a call on his return

Not what you expect from them! What did you get as a courtesy car? There was a lovely CGT in the showroom?

Sounds like a really annoying day and real lack of information. Hope the loan car was worth the trip....: :|

Hi Lindsay

Sorry to hear about your lovely 911 and your wasted trip yesterday :( Did you have a look at the worksheet to check what work had been done as it seems like the gearbox selector fault hasn't been touched. Ask for a written report that should detail all work done.

Keep smiling and see you soon
Graham

That all sounds very frustrating and annoying Lindsay, not what I'd expect from SPOM.

Come to Shackerstone anyway in the daily or the Clio! Will be good day out whatever if weather ok and you were missed at Shugborough!

Cheers

Hi Lindsay

Have a lift with me if you wish. If you need a ride there come to our place in the Clio.

However, I will be upset seeing a Clio, worst car ever made; awful gearbox.
