Boxster roof
Just bought a 53 Boxster and was a bit disappointed to find that you cant operate the roof whilst the car is on the move. I occasionally use the later model (56 plate) and the roof can be operated up to 30mph.
Any one know if there is 'work around' to get the earlier ones to work on the move, or are they completely different designs/mechanisms.
Thanks

Re: Boxster roof
Yes there is an aftermarket relay which allows the top to be opened up to around 15-20MPH, not sure of it's name but they advertise in the Porsche mags regularly.

Re: Boxster roof
If yours is a pre facelift model (986 as opposed to a 987), it will have the plastic screen. Be very careful about lowering the roof without performing the "Boxster chop" as it will crease on the way down and eventually split.tr7v8 wrote:Yes there is an aftermarket relay which allows the top to be opened up to around 15-20MPH, not sure of it's name but they advertise in the Porsche mags regularly.
They are therefore only useful for putting the roof up, so for (what I've seen) about £300, methinks it's not worth it.

Re: Boxster roof
Thanks Graham, I made sure I bought one with a glass rear window, it appears the gizmo(relay) is called a Smartop and are around £250.
So am now just trying to source one a bit cheaper.

Re: Boxster roof
Firstly welcome Guvs.
Following your post feel a bit more confident about giving it a go, think I will need to slacken the handbrake off a bit first.

Hi Scappy.
I didnt need to touch the adjustment on my handbrake it was OK, 2 clicks and the dashboard light comes on, and there was no pull/feeling of the brakes coming on,
works fine.

PS
Thanks for the welcome, Anyone from Wales on here ?

H all.
Since my last post I've been busy with this Mod, I've now earthed the No15 pin in my relay switch, so now I dont need to apply my handbrake until the dashboard warning light comes on, and I have fitted a Robo Top to the back of my hood switch that now gives me the one touch operation, job done.

Just left click on photo and wait a few seconds, a bit like working the robo top switch about the same time frame.

PS
looks cool when you do it on the move though.
