MOT today

Post by lindsayhbrown »

Took the Supersport for its first MOT in my ownership this morning, passed ok, but it was too low to go on the brake rollers, so the brakes weren't tested !! Also no test of the wipers, altho' it was persisting it down when I arrived at the centre so screen was showing the wiper sweep. It was also nice to see the underside of the car, and all looks well, the tester said it was one of the cleanest he'd seen :thumbleft:

Pleased for you but I'm astounded they didn't/couldn't test the brakes. They surely must have done something, like "Does it stop? Yes = pass"

He did mention how heavy the steering was with no power steering, but nothing about the brakes

Hi :)

I also cannot believe they couldnt test the brakes...my 928 has only 2 inches ground clearance and that goes onto the rollers for brake testing as long as they are careful....

Also I think they also have to have the old type of brake tester thingy that sits on the passenger floor while they road test the brakes.

I am not sure I would be happy about an MOT with no brake test for safety reasons..... mine just failed an MOT on one rear brake which I "thought" braked perfectly , but there WAS a problem once I stipped that caliper down....

I ALSO DONT THINK ITS LEGAL..WITH NO BRAKE TEST :(

All the best Brett :)

My Audi has 4 wheel drive and they take that for a test drive to check the brakes because they can't do it in the test centre!

Yup if it doesn't fit on the rollers or cannot be tested (LSD &/or 4 wheel drive being two reasons) then they should use the Tapley brake tester on a road test. MOT limits are horribly low, 16% for a parking brake & 50% for the footbrake so if it is younger than an Austin 7 then it should vastly exceed MOT limits.

Hi :)

For my high speed stuff I deliberately lowered mine to the absolute minimum possible... AND fitted undertrays as was bottoming out quite a lot lol :)
