New car, new problems.

Hiya everyone, it's been a while since I last posted on here and as strange as it sounds I've kind of missed having problems to ask about as the 944S always had something that needed sorting (although I did f***ing love that car).
Anyway the Boxster has been brilliant and I have loved driving it but alas I now have a problem. I was topping the coolant up for fun the other week and eventually I noticed it pissing out on the road one night after I parked up. So off to the father in laws as he's more than capable with a spanner and lots of internet advice on bumper removal and knacker scratching later we found the drivers side radiator was goosed, a quick call to Porschapart as they're round the corner from his house in Ramsbottom and one nearly new rad for £60.00. Now whilst driving yesterday I heard a horrendous crunching/scraping sound coming frrom the passenger side so I pulled over and found the rubbery undertray type thing hanging down in front of the wheel and broken up but more worrying the front of the wheel arch liner burnt away like the tyre has been rubbing it but yet still in it's correct place. Any ideas will be greatly welcome.

Cant help sorry, Ive had no problems so far (well apart from the alternator). I do worry about every wee noise though after reading about the IMS problem

maybe have a look on boxa.net ? Its much busier than the mid engined section on here

Does anyone know if this IMS problem also affects the later models of the Boxster (987) or the facelift model of the 986?

Yes it can

boxa.netmembers have been doinga a reliability survey and there are a few 987's that have suffered this. In saying that I dont think it is the huge problem that some make out as it is only a very small number of cars that have suffered.

There is also now a few specialists who can offer a modification on the IMS that should slove the problem.

There is also a school of thought that says the risk is reduced once the car is over 50,000.

personally it did not put me off buying a boxster - if you read up on most cars online you will find horror storys.

Even though I am selling mine I think it is a great car and would recommend it to anyone

I should of updated the outcome of this ages ago sorry
It turned out to be a spring that had fallen out in the rear brake assembley and was grinding as I drove the car. £10.00 used part from Porschapart and problem solved
