Re: NEC Classic Car Show
Attached are some pieces of club history.
The clubs return to the NEC show after a few years of absence AND its first with its current name.
Note the banner in the 928 photo. If you look it has had the word independent added (see also report about the banner miffing the Ferrari Club).

Re: NEC Classic Car Show
So tr7v8, you didn't enjoy the show. You should have done it my way:
1. Join PCGB.
2. Enter competition for two free tickets.
3. Win competition.
4. Give 2nd ticket to pal who has a blue badge...free parking at NEC.
5. Move from Kent to Worcestershire, so round trip to NEC is 40 miles.
And my verdict?.......Show: FANTASTIC!!!
TIPEC stand: FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well done Paul and the the gang from Central Region
Best wishes to you all from Derek.

Got back at 18:50 had a pretty good run back. One laugh was as the shuttle bus drove back to the car park, some dozy bint in a Corsa came the wrong way down the dual carriageway from the M42 & into the NEC facing on coming traffic. Luckily the bus driver saw her & stopped. Also there was no oncoming traffic so she got away with it![]()

My thoughts on show overall? We had a TIPEC Committee meet so that was the reason I went, first time I've been to the Classic at NEC & wouldn't have gone otherwise.
Classics OK, nothing mindblowing, seen similar unusual stuff at Bromley. Long way from Kent 330mile round trip & the weather going there was vile. Bloody expensive, full price ticket on the door is 18quid with a rip off 8 quid parking.
Pre-booked the entry was 12quid with a pound booking fee.
Will I be going back, no.

PCGB membership is expensive related to the tickets so that seems a tad extreme

Re: NEC Classic Car Show
Lo all, just got back so here's my verdict
Not a bad journey for me , about 1 hour 45. One of the attractions was to get to meet a few Tipec folk in the flesh as well as their cars and that we did. My other enjoyment was to look at some cars from the 80's in general and again that was geat. I was particularly chuffed to see a Talbot Sunbeam TI on a stand as I used to own one of those at only 19 years old , I think ( me not the car). I never thought I would see one now as they are very rare indeed.
Re the Porsche , I have to say the 993 is growing on me 'dangerously' and I saw a couple of lovely ones of those including a Polar silver turbo that was very impressive indeed as well as the one nearest to the seating area on the TIPEC stand ? , another striking car to say the least.
As for what's to see at the show in geneal , I was suprised how much I 'could ' have enjoyed. Trade stands from car cleaning to tools to clothing to gadgets were all interesting and there were a coupe of demo's which again I 'could' have enjoyed. Hoewever much as I love my family I dont think trawling round with a four year old and a push chair in those crowds is the best way to do it TBH and I was knackered far earlier than I might have been if chilling out and consuming the odd pint
All in all very glad I went , met some very nice people on many stands of several marques, shame the man on the Volvo Owners Club lived up to their rep by inadvertantly insulting the missus but ce la vie thats a story for 'her' Volvo forum.
Cheers Mas

Re: NEC Classic Car Show
Hey! Im in the VOC.Whos insulted your missus then?
As regards the show ,we went a couple of years ago and the Tipec stand was very ,very good but we both were overcome by the noise, the artificial lights etc. The queues for food and drink were miles long and it was very expensive and tasted like s**t.We left earlier than planned and I promised never to take her there again!! Best shows are in fields!!

Re: NEC Classic Car Show
I did wonder if anyone might be interested to know -
,
Well the story is my missus usually drives our T5 estate and loves it , she is a frequenter of forums ( like me) but left the Volvo Owners Club Forum quietly a while back after reading many rude and bitter posts from folk to other folk and having had someone quite rudely tell her that her car was good for scrap ! . Being as it's a lovely R reg T5 estate with only 119,000 miles previously described by HLM Tuning as " runs like a swiss watch" she was quite miffed at his snobbery. Ever since this Mrs M has frequented the 'other' Volvo forum which happens to be a bit like here
So, Mrs M goes up to a grey haired man pushing 60 ( so should have developed manners by now) on the Volvo Owners Club stand and says attempting to strike up a conversation as you do -
" I'm well disapointed that there are no T5's here , why not ? "
to which he replies totally serious faced
" Well they attract the wrong sort don't they " ,
Mrs M says " what sort do you mean "
he replies " hoodies and holigans " .
I just walked off laughing what a jerk , Mrs M being in her 40's and a professional lady with 2 children was not impressed. Such a shame he didnt say it to me as my reply would have been so ammusing !

Re: NEC Classic Car Show
I was lucky enough to be asked to display my 928 S4 at NEC, so divided my time between attempting to field the extraordinarily high interest in 928s which was encouraged by having one on the stand, and cringing as push chairs zeroed in on her recently paint-corrected panels.Andrew wrote:Interesting photo's of old mag etc.
but who does that lovely 928 now belong to???
Several visitors to the stand confided their involvement in heroic 928 restoration projects (one had bought the starting point for £150). One showed me latest photos of his work on an early silver manual 'S' - tele-dials, pascha and all. Frankly it looked fantastic - just like John Vaughan's example of the first RHD UK import. There are some very talented/skilled people out there who seem to take the most difficult projects in their stride - humbling stuff.
