I'm watching this with interest as I keep seeing chips on ebay for my 964 but can't decide if they're a waste of money or possibly harmfull, will they ruin the fuelling?
Gazzy i did speak to someone who put a S/W chip into his 1989 911 and says it was well worth doing, wished he had done it years ago and it never needed setting up as such and he said you could feel the difference.
But im un-sure myself thats why i have posted the question lol
I know Rich Simpson had his Targa chipped and was very pleased. Check through old posts or if Rich is watching he may be able to advise( think he may be in France at present)
Ive had mine chipped and its better, seams smoother to drive. The power went up from 256bhp to 278bhp. That was a live rollin road re-map.
I know sumone who got a plug and play e-bay chip for £56 and his 964 made 298bhp on the same rollin road that my car pulled the 256bhp!
He didnt test his car before so i cant say how much power increase he had from the e-bay chip. His car has the same set exhaust set up as mine but has had a recent full engine rebuild.
The only thing ive been warned about is rev limiter removal, or upping the limit where the limiter kicks in.
Engines have rev limiters for a reason.
If you don't mind me asking, what did that cost Russ.I keep hearing good things about this guy and I'm considering it for the future but for now I thought I'd give an aftermarket chip a go.
I gave £300 for the re-map, sounds a lot but it was there for a couple of hours.
You ever seen a car stood still doin 166mph!!! Very loud and scary. I filmed it with my phone, ill try and upload the vid.
Gettin new plugs and lead fitted on tuesday ste, unit11 are doin it.
I know what you mean about the dyno runs Russ,I used to run a bike dyno which was brilliant running someone elses motor to the redline, wasn't quite so appealing with my own.

Good bloke knows his stuff. If your in the north then id say you cant do better
He's the best for Porsche there is at what he does. I use this guy & Rick woods at Stockport for the specialist engineering stuff. Never understand why people will pay for a chip & not bother to check if it's doing the job. For all they know it could be over fuelling & wrecking the engine. Live remap from Wayne will be money well spent.
944 lux, Eco car. Off the road more than it's on!
Audi 2.0 TDI Good but rather boring..........
944 now sold.
