Steering wheel removal

Post by mentorman911 »

HI Folks

Can anyone help? I have to change the indicator stalk/switch unit on my 964 this weekend, I can't switch off my full beam when the lights are on, doesn't bother me at all but getting some angry gestures.
In order to do this I must remove the steering wheel and i can't find a procedure any where for a non air bag model 90 964 C4 coupe. I have checked Renlist, pelican, jons and although i get close with some links, nothing. The procedure for the air bag version is different.

Anybody done it? If so can you explain to me or point me in the direction of a blow by blow procedure, please.

Many thanks in advance

If i recall the oblong horn pad in the centre just pulls off, i think it has spring mounted cups in the corners. Then you can access the nut inside the wheel. If the wheel does not want to come off after nut removed (can stick) hit the rim with a rubber hammer the shock wobbles the wheel up the spline

Just done this job.
The center horn pad pulls off, 24mm nut and the wheels comes off.
5 small screws hold the plastic covers on.
Then a 8mm bolt under the stalk thigy.
The stalk thing pulls forward, unplug wires.
Dead easy.
Dont forget to put the old horn cotact back onto the new stalk.

Just a word of advice, unscrew centre nut & THEN REPLACE IT a couple of turns. Otherwise when the wheel comes off the splines it will hit you in the face! Not that I'd have done this of course
