I've been having some fun with my 986 making various noises lately. I've ended up replacing all 4 tuning forks and the front engine mount but I still have a few persistent noises.
The main worrying one is when pulling away or applying throttle (unless super gently) from decelleration a clunk will come from the engine area, you can't feel a clunk in the car but you can hear it coming from underneath, especially with the roof down. It's got an almost transmission clatter that goes along with it.
Another noise is when the car is idling from cold there's a sound seemingly coming from the gearbox that's just a nasty rattle. This only happens when cold and once you've driven for a bit it goes away.
Final noise is coming from the OSR wheel area (from what I can tell) and it's a high pitched squeal that comes in after around 10 mins of driving and stays constant when driven anywhere above 30mph.
Things I've done so far are completely strip down and rebuild the brakes on the OSR wheel, given the handbrake area a massive clean up, grease and adjustment and pulled what seemed to be a stone from one of the brake pads but the noise still persists.
I also noticed that the gearbox seems to have been leaking quite badly and when checking the fluid it was quite low. I couldn't check how low but there's definitely some in there and I threw about half a litre of suitable oil I had lying around in. If anything this quietened the gearbox down slightly but not by much.
So after that lot what are people's thoughts? I'm leaning towards potentially a dead gearbox (although it still shifts fine) and a knackered internal bearing or a knackered wheel bearing and something else clattering around under the car.
Car is a 2002 2.7 with 142k miles on the clock and the tuning forks and engine mount I took off were original.

Re: 986 clunk on throttle
Wheel bearing sounds likely
Exhaust maybe for the clunk.

Re: 986 clunk on throttle
Exhaust is a new one on me. I've replaced the back box clamps but didn't notice any slack. Where do they knock?
