Spare key

Post by aquarian »

Just bought a 98 Boxster 2.5 and its come with only one key.
Can anyone advise on how to get a second key as cheaply as possible?
Thanks.....Nick in Suffolk

I am in the same position with only one key & unfortunatly the cheap part of getting a 2nd key doesn't seem possible :( . The cheapest I have seen is around £160 (I think thats + VAT) at Revolution Porsche. I got a quote from main dealers at Reading of around £320!! I am still looking at the moment (had car 2 years with only one key) & have bought one of those £10 key loss things with my insurance just in case. I keep thinking the price of a spare key sounds expensive but someone pointed out how much would it cost to recover car from somewhere like an airport etc so even though I may have to travel to get a spare key I will probably do that after Christmas. My current key fob has just stopped working so need to get a new complete key & current one will be the spare. To be fair I am more likely to lock my keys inside the car rather than lose them LOL

Hopefully someone on here will have some knowledge of Porsche Speacilists in your area?

I also only have one key with mine, but was told it is possible to code a second hand key
to a different car as long as you have the code label/tag that comes with it when new.

Unfortunately I have only seen one with it's original tag on ebay and I missed the end of the auction.

Managed to find the answer to my own question!
Express auto keys in Kent will cut and recode a key for £140 or£90 for one without remote locking, sounds like a bargain to me. They have to have the car for an hour so sounds like a day off and a trip to Kent!
