Luggage lever problem

When I purchased my 986 last year I was told it the previous owner had trouble opening the front and rear luggage compartments, by using the levers inside the cabin. I did not think much of it but now using the car more, I would like to be able to gain access. The rear one still opens fine with the remote on the key fob. If you play around the levers for up to five minutes they final allow access to both compartments. It is as if they are catching on each other or something which prevents movement. It is not a central locking issue.

Err it is a central locking issue, sort of. Depending on your Boxster year is whether the levers are totally electric or cable. Early ones to 2002 are mechanical, later ones are all electric. On the early ones there is an interlock "plate" that stops the levers moving when the car is locked & if this doesn't clear properly then you can get an issue where they won't move. You can remove the whole assembly by removing the small bungs in the kick plate & then inserting a allan key (5mm I think) & slackening the screws within. The whole assembly then lifts up. You'll see how it all works & then you need to puzzle out of it is a lever or cable problem or if it is a interlock issue. Be careful the prices of all the bits are pretty eye watering so don't force anything.

I had a problem with a broken lever for the front luggage compartment. I was considering removing it to see if it could be repaired. I was concerned about the potential replacement cost. However I had the panel (with both switches) replaced at OPC while it was being serviced. The part and fitting came to just less than £65.
If you are going to investigate the fault yourself, heed Jims advice about slackening the Allen bolts. They don't need to be removed completely. I think they are deeply recessed and can be tricky to replace if you do remove them.

I did not as they asked for a lot more then £65. However when I got the car back, the levers all work correctly now. So if aint broke ....
