Re: Wife has told me to buy a Cayman
After telling my 5 year old daughter that I was selling the red car (her name for the 944 cab), she burst into floods of tears. She loves sitting in the front with daddy and also the fact that the roof comes off. So, last night after a few glasses of wine, my wife let slip that she thinks we should reconsider selling it, with the solution being to spend some of our savings instead. There will be more wine tonight and perhaps some strong cocktails. Further update tomorrow......

I think selling the 5 year old & keeping the Cab is a bit strong. Are 5 year olds worth enough to part ex for a Cayman.

A fair point, but part-exing the wife might do it!tr7v8 wrote:I think selling the 5 year old & keeping the Cab is a bit strong. Are 5 year olds worth enough to part ex for a Cayman.

Failed. She fell asleep on the couch, full of (please read carefully) cocktails!briggy wrote:......... last night after a few glasses of wine, my wife let slip that she thinks we should reconsider selling it, with the solution being to spend some of our savings instead. Re: Wife has told me to buy a Cayman
After driving the S2 cab for a week in all weathers, I've decided to keep it and use it as my daily drive. I had a good offer from someone at work, but turned them down. It wasn't even the size of the offer that put me off, it just made me realise that I didn't want to sell it. I've spent less time weighing up dumping long-term girlfriends than I have over this decision. Owning a newer / better / faster Porsche will just have to wait.
So, what to do with the proceeds of the Audi S5? Get all the "like to have" jobs done on the cab. I'm not into modding, but there are always things that could be made better with time and money. Some of the rest will go on changing the wife's car to a quicker estate - BMW 335 Touring or Audi RS4 Avant maybe, perhaps something cheaper. I've got a few options there, so with a sorted cab, it's a nice place to be.
Cheers,
Bryan

Re: Wife has told me to buy a Cayman
Nice one Bryan
I've had similar feelings, I will inherit a few quid later this year and have been thinking of a 996 or Boxster.
However I really enjoy driving the 924 and have mixed feelings about selling it and can't afford both.

Re: Wife has told me to buy a Cayman
Drove the 944 for a few weeks, but it was starting to become a workhorse and didn't feel as special anymore, so bought this http://thealpinaregister.com/forums/vie ... hp?t=17667
Way more space in the back for the kids the in the S5, more torques than I know what to do with, really nice spec and one of only 50 RHD coupes made.
944 treated to a club sport steering wheel and booked in for some paintwork repairs in a couple of weeks.
Result.
Cheers,
Bryan

Re: Wife has told me to buy a Cayman
briggy wrote:Ok, so maybe they're not the exact words she used, but the green light is almost there. I've got an Audi S5 that is my daily drive and a Porsche 944S2 cab for sunny days. I do a combined mileage of 8,000 to 10,000 miles a year, but mainly on my own - and that's the point. We always use her tractor (BMW520D Touring) when we go anywhere together, with the 2 kids in the back. The suggestion is that I sell my 2 cars and get an out and out 2 seater, hence the Cayman.
Specifically, it would be the Cayman S and a 20k budget (which will inevitably stretch by 10%) should get me a late pre-facelift model. Does this seem reasonable?
What I'd like to know is which options are worth spending money on. For example, if an auto box is an expensive option, then that would be wasted on me as I specifically want a manual. Conversely, are there any options such as sat nav that a Cayman simply can't be without?
Are there any resources on here which show standard, original wheels? I'm keen to keep things original, so would like to know what I'm looking for.
Any other general advice?
Cheers,
Bryan
I was recently given the "green" light to buy a cayman, so I did, literally...............
