CDR 23 problems

Can anyone advise please - When I purchased my Boxster the CD/Radio was displaying the dreaded security problem, which, after reviewing several posts on this forum, I sent away and had reset. The player was then installed back into the car and it worked! At least it does when switched on manually, however it switches itself off after the statutory 60 minutes. Another problem is that it won't switch off the traffic alert either.

Does anyone have an answer? (Other than replacing)

Yeah, they are top rated and the problem is, they "clone" themselves to the car they were initially in (almost like DNA) and they have to be sent away to be reset. From what I have read, any other system has to be totally rewired in the car as the existing wiring links into the ECU.

I read that you need to take the car and stereo to an opc or indie with the right kit?

CDR-23 (or later):
These radios do not have a security code - that is, not that the user enters.
These radios are security tested on the MOST (fiber optic bus) system to see if they are the "programmed" radio. The radios are programmed and recognized by the car’s DME and can only be replaced with a PST2 or PIWIS

Had it done by indie and put back into car, recognised no problem but then as stated wont switch on automatically with ignition and can't switch off traffic alert. Then again, makes me listen to the sound of engine instead so not all bad.

They are a good price even when you add on the £45 to be reprogrammed, may have to replace existing.

Apologies for the Thread Exhumation! I have just replaced the LEDtastic Pioneer unit [that the previous owner of my GT3 thought was a good upgrade] with a CDR23 Headunit.. But am faced with the PROTECT wording when I turn the ignition..

Where would I go to get this sorted? An OPC? InCar Stereo Specialist?
What do I need to ask them to do?

I don't have the VIN etc. of the Boxster the CDR23 came from, if that is required..?

Am I better off starting again and getting a CDR220 with its Code?
