Re: Cayman update
Just a niggling lambda sensor to sort (tomorrow) and yeah, hopefully no more issues. Will need to get some decent rear tyres though for our Palaces trip. Just want to get the running in done now so can have some fun hehe - thanks!!EL Gordo wrote:Going ok now?

Re: Cayman update
Well, got the sensors sorted ........ and then a headlight went! £17 bulb at Porsche Portsmouth.
Done 800 miles now - 2 - 4K revs only and no labouring allowed - actually quite hard work. Still 1,200 more to go before it's oil change and inspection.
NO OIL LOSS!!!!!

Re: Cayman update
An old thread now but having had her back for a while, and had, additionally: new starter motor, alternator, lambda sensors, battery, tyres, discs & pads all round she's now on top form. Oil usage is now virtually non-existent and the engine feels so very, very sweet. We took her to the Swiss & Italian alps and loved every second. The engine of course is now future proof with a new RMS, upgraded IMS bearing, new pistons, new guides, low temp thermostat and strengthened cylinder liners etc. - all courtesy of Hartech - followed up with 'post-op' care by JMG.
Yep, we had to dig deep into our pockets for all this but feel that we got the most satisfactory outcome we could on the engine fix - at least one that meant it wouldn't drag on forever in a court case with the seller (one we surely would have won, but hey).
Would we recommend a gen. 1 Cayman S? Yep, but having been bitten (most folk of course haven't been) I would say that borescoping & compression tests were an absolute must pre-purchase (and ideally 'sorted' RMS & IMS). Certainly learnt something from what was a very testing time.
Many thanks to all those who helped out and gave advice along the way!!

Re: Cayman update
Having taken her out on a test drive today, I can say she is a wonderful example of a Porsche.
Just remember to take her out and stretch her legs on a regular basis and don't be afraid of giving the brakes a regular workout and you will avoid problems in the future

Clean it, wax it, love it, ENJOY it... then fix it
