Air-cooled? What has that got to do with taste? A VW beetle's air cooled, but there's thousands of water cooled cars that are more tasteful.dekandgord wrote:got some taste, bought air cooled in the first place !
In fact Air-cooled is so good that no car manufacturer (including Porsche) make a car with an air-cooled engine anymore. It must be the best, eh?
Answer me this...If Porsche had made the 911 water-cooled from the start, would you now be driving a 356 saying that water-cooled cars have no taste?
No you wouldn't! It makes no difference if the engine is water or air-cooled, at the end of the day it's the whole car that you have to merit and the 911 at the top is a dog!

No, I'm just fed up with 911 owners thinking that nothing compares to the 911 either before or after!
Yeah, the 911 is a great car, but if money was no object and you could own only one car, not many people would choose the 911. And I don't see what's so good about an engine that's air-cooled. How cares, as long as it works?

no but i would love one !
I had a gold 944S "D199 JUE" that was wonderful, I spent a fortune on it, new head after the old one cracked, ten disc denon cd player etc etc cleaned it every weekend, then I stuck it in out and back in again of a ditch, at well above the speed limit. I blame the tractor and trailer coming the other way that forced me to move onto the inside verge and lose traction.
I probably should have been at least in hospital for a good while if not worse, the car was 2 feet shorter at the front, 1 foot shorter at the back, no rear glass, front screen ruined, sunroof had popped out to god knows where, even at the end that car looked after me, I got out with a small scratch on my hand. Cat B write off, wasnt even allowed to have the parts.
After that:
Couldnt bring myself to have another 944 as it would never be the same, ever. like trying to replace a member of my family with someone the same but different.
I also have an unprintable story regarding a conversation with someone who stopped to see if was alright when I had got out of the car. Weirdly when i got out of the car I locked it, then went back for the radio front and locked it again.
We bought the SC cos we wanted another Porsche, when we got her she was covered in moss and had seized brakes and was soaking wet. She was a sympathy buy. But now we love her anyway.
So please dont ever think I am comparing, denigrating or "dissing" anything that porsche ever made I love them all.(except the cayenne which is a pig and should never have happened)

"And I don't see what's so good about an engine that's air-cooled"
All engines are air cooled really:
The water is the vehicle for carrying the heat from a place where the engine designer can't put enough cooling fins, to a place where he can put enough cooling fins.Conductive heat transfer is proportional to the temperature difference between materials. If an engine metal is at 300°C and the air is at 0°C, then there is a 300°C temperature difference for cooling. An air-cooled engine uses all of this difference. In contrast, a liquid-cooled engine might dump heat from the engine to a liquid, heating the liquid to 150°C which is then cooled with 0°C air. Thus, in each step, the liquid-cooled engine has half the temperature difference and so may need as much as twice the cooling area.cooling is a lot more efficient, because the heat gets transported away first, and cooled somewhere else (radiator).
by the way the trike appaers to have a radiator !!!!

Okay, your a car lover like me. And considering that I've also put my 944 in a ditch like you, (only I repaired mine) you're forgiven.dekandgord wrote: by the way the trike appaers to have a radiator !!!!
I'm not so sure about the rad on the trike? May be an oil cooler or just for show?
