Track Days

Hi Sean,

I agree with Paul's extra category - concerned the car's not up to the job. I don't consider the 944 Cab to be a suitable track car, ok on the track, off the track is my concern. I have been known to have go at Prescott but probably more restrained than a track day. Did anyone take a Boxster?

What's this, a Boxster on a track day? Next we know they'll be racing the things. Oh, hold on...

I get the feeling that some folk feel that they can only take a full-on, caged, harnessed and slick-shod GT3 fire-breather on a track. Not a bit of it - have you never heard of Run-What-Yer-Brung drag race meets? I'd enjoy putting my old Ford Focus around Blyton, it'd be a good laugh.

I have to say it's the lack of numbers booking that will always be the issue for the club putting together future trackdays. When we organised one back in 2008 the only viable
option was to latch on to an organised event - in that case an event at Bruntingthorpe - in order to avoid risking a significant amount of club funds. This time it was agreed we should put on our own event to celebrate the 20th Anniversary but I suspect it will be a "one-off"

Whilst there are lots of folk that love the idea of putting their cars on track, the reality is that when it comes down to it most will simply not commit to booking. Whether its the cost,distance to circuit, fear of damage, breakdown, or being the slowest on circuit there is something that puts folk off - even though none of these concerns are really justified. Perhaps the fears are caused by watching motor racing on TV and thinking that track days are the same?

Personally I would love us to hold an annual event but it won't happen unless lots more members are willing to commit and/or a sponsor could be found to mitigate cost to the club.

Since 2007 I have organised an annual sprint day at Curborough (Staffs) for Central Region ( and open to all club members) and everyone that has attended over the years has had a ball but the cost of a circuit like this is manageable and risks perhaps a few hundred pounds at most. Once you move to recognised racing circuits the costs become huge to have exclusive use.
