Headlamp main beam not working

Technical help please! 911 Carrera 3.2 Year 1986. LHD European spec. Headlamp flasher & main beam has stopped working, fuses OK, seemingly no power coming into these two fuses. My workshop manual doesn't refer to a Relay, but presumably there is one somewhere? It's not above the fuses, & I cant see one behind the dashboard, but Design 911 website lists a standard round Relay for this application. Any ideas, please?

Welcome to the forums.

Are you sure the switch is functioning correctly? On my 944, I lost main beam due to dirty contacts in the switch - spraying electrical contact cleaner into the mechansim and operating it a few times sorted it out.

All relays are under the hood above the fuses, however none are covering the headlights. I think you will find the sterering column switch has failed. Check the threads on impactbumper.com and i think you will find details of how rewire the cicuit to add in protection. I believe you will still need a new switch though :(

This is a commen problem with 911's upto 89. Porsche didnt use relays for the headlights at all and as a result the small spring switches in the main beam lever have to take all the load. They arc, then get pitted then fail.

Best to do an upgrade and fit relays so you avaoid the problem happening again. On good side effect is tat your headlights will get brighter!!!
