Its a common fault and as you say, its NOT rebuildable
I had the same thing happen and swapped to a Momo ally one with the button in the top....
Much better than the original for fast changes as well.

An MOT is a good idea, at least you will know what EXACTLY needs fixing and you may be pleasantly surprised...928s rarely fail on much....
