Boxster ECU

After a scary experience when my Boxster (986) cut out dead on a dark S-bend in the middle of nowhere on Saturday night, it turns out that the ECU has fried itself...! While the garage are looking into the cause of this I am already faced with a bill of £1100 for the part alone. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this may have happened and if there are any less expensive ways (ie. reconditioned ECU etc) of fixing the car?

Any advice appreciated!

Thanks
DEAN

S/H ECU from a breaker, Simon at Porschapart Hillclimbs a Boxster so would probably have an idea. You'll need the exact model number because there are hundreds.
Other option is to Google ATP they repair ECUs & have stock, be warned if it's fried it probably won't be repairable, but they'll offer a decent price for a replacement.

Hi Jim,

Thanks very much - I called them and it seems promising, so getting La Rose to check all the details...
