New member and pospective 986 buyer.

Post by AndyK »

I am new to the Porsche, the Club the forum and I am looking on advice on buying a facelift 986.

I am looking for a manual but have little preference between a 2.7 and 3.2.

I will be looking to purchase in the summer but am engaging early so that I can learn the ropes and to help pass the next 5 months, I am currently away working for Her Majesty.

My main questions are;

Where is best to buy, recommended specialists, club members or mainstream?
Apart from normal servicing what work should have already been done?
What should I pay for a well looked after example with sub 80k miles?
What preventative maintenance or repairs should I expect to do as I intend to keep the car for at least 3 years?
What work, if any can be carried out at home?

I will be splitting my time between the central belt of Scotland, the Wirral and Gloucestershire when I return to the UK so advise on purchasing or services in those areas is also greatly received.

All help and guidance much appreciated.
