Boxster key/remote problem

Post by johnd »

Hi
Just bought a 99 boxster 2.5 triptronic and have a problem with the key/remote for alarm/cdl.The light on the key does not work so tried new battery and cleaned contacts but still not working. The key will open the drivers door lock and de-activate the alarm and start the car so I think the sensor part of the key is not working.Porsche dealer wants almost £200 for a new key/remote.Any ideas would be very helpful.
Thanks
John

Hi John, welcome to the forums.

There's a few suggestions on renntech:

Or you could try calling your local independent specialist for advice.

suggestion that porsche is trying to rape you as you only need a new fob which if i remember rightly is about £69 and .5 of an hour to code to alarm ecu. the dealers hold the codes for the alarm ecu which is why they command such monies.. there is a thing where you turn the bettery upside down for a length of time to reset your fob but don't know if it works....

Yes, the battery polarity reversal for 10 seconds is mentioned on renntech. I've no idea if this works (or even if doing it could actually damage the circuit) but might be worth a try if you're about to spend £200.
