Leaking Aircon

Post by Rob996 »

Hi all,
I have a leak in my aircon system, I know this as the system has some neon green stuff in it, it seems oil based, is there oil and gas in the aircon system? if yes I assume this oil is for the compressor? Not ever had aircon issues with any car before is this oil normal, or is this just the colour stuff to show you have a leak?

The leak itself is at the clamp on drivers side under B pillar, I have been told this is a join of pipes at this point?

The air con condensers are in the front and the air con pump is attached to engine in the back, driven by the serpentine belt, so the pipes will go the length of the car and back. That's where my knowledge runs out. At work we put neon green stuff in a system to find a leak, but it needs drained once found as it rots the system. Kwik Fit offer a cheap service, perhaps try them? We have plenty mobile guys up here, where are you?

I am wondereing if the Neon (Alien Blood) stuff has been left in there from a previous work, which raises concerns if it rots things!

I am speaking to the garage where I got the car from as hopefully will be sorted under warranty, but interested if the Neon stuff itself is oil based or if it is added to oil that is already there? (if there is oil that is)

So not getting sorted under warranty :( (they have done a load of other stuff so not complaining), so does anybody know if it is cheaper to go to aircon specialist, or go to a Porsche specialist?

I have been told the pipe that is leaking is the High pressure pipe which is apparently £99+vat from OPC, so does anybody have any recommendations of somebody who can do this in the North Bristol/Gloucester area cost effectively?

thanks
Rob

I would think all air con pipe is high pressure. Your going to need a re-gas as well which is £80 +
