I just got back from a 900 mile round trip to Wales, trying to avoid all man hole covers and holes in road, I should point out that Wales is no different from the North East but it was the longest trip in my 996 and going over manhole covers and holes in the road make it a bone jarring experience..
I do not know if all 996's are like this? mine was built in 2000, can't find anything in service book for suspension replacement. I have seen adverts for suspension upgrades for softer ride at slower speeds and tightens up at speed. Those sound ideal, if it is not hype? any suspension suggestions to improve a very hard ride, ie makes etc,

I have a C4S which is set a bit lower than the C4. I find the ride ok, but my car has only covered 50,000 miles.

Are you running stock wheels? that will make a big difference if you are not.

mileage 91000, wheels are genuine 18" Porsche Carrera GT3

Tyres?

I used to find mine pretty compliant to be honest, that is a real feature of Porsche I think.

Our 99 996 is a good ride and certainly not bone jarring, if I compare it to a m3 I had or Alfa both of which I used to run it is positively comfortable!!!

Might just be coincidence but have just had the brakes done and whilst in the air the tech went round all the suspension and anti roll bar bushes with a spanner and a can of wd40 as I had a suspension clonking noise which now seems to have gone away, but have not done any miles yet so might be a false claim

These won't help I;ve never found Bridgestones to give a good ride.

Bridgestones have a rather strong sidewall, making them a slightly heavier and firmer tyre.
Downside is road noise and less suspension movement..
Upside is a firmer ride offering some great feedback through the wheel and less roll.

I ran Bridgestones and loved them as a drivers tyres, however for a tourer they may not be the best solution.

Before you go spending any cash on shockers, tyres etc, think I'd have a suspension specialist check it out and issue you with a report on it's findings. It will cost around £300 but money well spent as it will detail the condition of shockers and bushes and you will be able to discuss your particular driving needs so as to replace components that will end up being more compliant with your needs.

I swapped my 18" wheels for standard 17", great improvement in ride and handling. Grahame996
