Cayman 2.7 Sports Exhaust?????

Post by Byakkonick »

Hi everyone,

I am just after some advice on sports exhausts for my 07 Cayman 2.7. I am just seeking a little bit more noise from my Cayman, but their are so many options out there!

I am not bothered about any extra bhp (shes quick enough), just a nice sweet sound that isn't like a boy racers sound! I went into Porsche Leeds yesterday and they quoted me around £2000 for the PSE switchable exhaust fitted, that won't void any warrenty. Seems steep, but I like the fact that it is a genuine official Porsche extra. I have a mate who has a RS60 Boxster with the PSE option and it does sound very nice and I like the fact that you can turn it off and on at will.

I have have also seen Remus, Milltek, Dansk, Eurocup exhausts etc, but a lot of these aren't road legal :(
I don't know if I need a full system or just a pair of sports back boxes either??

Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

If it is still under Porsche warranty then it is PSE or a conversion done so it is invisible, can't remember the name at present.
Otherwise all the rest are OK, don't know why you think them illegal though, a fair few will be TUV approved in Germany which is a lot stricter than anything we can come up with here. My Boxster lacks noise as well & something noisier is on the agenda. S/H systems come up occasionally.

Hi Jim/Mark,

Thanks for your reply's. That's interesting that they all should be road legal, I think I was looking on a lot of American sites at the exhausts and their laws are very strict over there (even though they all drive around in big V8's :? ).

I shall take a look at that link, cheers Mark.

Are you still in the Porsche GB extended warranty and how long do you think you will stay in it?

If you are in it and are planning on staying in it, you only really have one option, the genuine PSE either installed by Porsche or by a specialist.

Unfortunately, under the Porsche Cars GB warranty, it is classed as an insurance policy where terms and conditions can specify that the item must be genuine. I have even seen main dealers refuse a IMS bearing failure due to an aftermarket cd player.

If it was under the Porsche factory warranty, you would actually be free to install another alternative exhaust with the only criteria being that it was of equal or greater build quality to the original one and competantly installed, without breaching the warranty due to EU Block Exemption laws, which forbid manufacturers from insisting in their own parts being used for servicing and repairs.

For example, on a 2011 Cayman, we can fit a Fabspeed exhaust, which is absolutely amazing, without it damaging the factory warranty. However, a 2007 Cayman which is no longer under the Porsche Factory warranty, but on the Porsche Cars of Great Britain warranty, the same exhaust would invalidate the "membership" of the car.

Its why more and more owners of Porsche either under factory warranty are comming to specialists, and why people who's factory warranty is coming to an end are switching to Porsche specialists maintenance plans like ours and the one by Hartech.
Clean it, wax it, love it, ENJOY it... then fix it

Hi Jon,

My Cayman isn't under warranty at the moment, so I can consider any exhaust. Just a bit confused at which to buy? Their are so many on the market. I was looking to spend around a £1000, so I am not looking for a complete system. I like the exhausts that replace the 4 Cats with just 2, as I feel this will reduce the weight of the car and allow the engine to run a lot freer. I just don't want the car to sound like a boyracers machine

I was looking at the Agency Power High Flow rear system. It has no tailpipes with it, but my car has the original dual pipes extra on it, that I would like to keep anyway. This costs around £1000 that I feel is quite reasonable.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for your reply.
