Hiya mate, I have run a boxster in the snow and the combination of near perfect weight distribution, rear wheel drive and wide rear tyres make them a bit of a nightmare but I can't give an opinion on how good the winter tyres are as I haven't yet used them yet but with a move to Ramsbottom (full of steep inclines) imminent I may have to invest! If you do use them can you please let me know how successful they are. Cheers.
Andy Bruce.

Like Brucey, no experience of snow tyres but in general they are quite cr@p.
I had a tiptronic and in the ice I pulled up at a junction, the front wheels locked up, the rear wheels (being still in gear) had traction and I was promptly, slowly, pushed into the highway. Only way of stopping it was hand brake (to lock the back wheels) or out of Drive and in to Neutral (to take the drive off the rear wheels). Hehe, fun!!
As for general snow, I avoided it like the plague and took the wife's fwd (told SWMBO to get a lift!).
