Still new to the air-cooled brigade, went for a hoon yesterday, car ran/performed well apart from when I adjusted the heater control between the seats a screeching noise occured, a bit like a fan belt slipping would be the best way of describing it, went after about 5 secs but did come back intermittantly as I was driving, it also happened again nearly every time I adjusted the temp control

Were you adjusting the temperature downwards - ie colder?
If so screeching probably coming from female passengers

Adjusting temp up or down, also when you turn the engine on it sometimes does it, I thought it might be a noisey fuel pump to begin with

He he
Common fault on old 911.
The heater system is beyond old at best!
The screechy is the fan unit, worn out.
Ignore it till it gives up!

It seized last night filling the car full of smoke, was nearly home so drove the last couple of miles with the windows down, question is will the car be ok to drive if I disconnect the fan until I get hold of a new one ?

Engine blower (I think), screeching started as soon as the ignition turned on before engine started, but would go after a couple of minutes or so ...... until last night cough cough
