When I finally get my car back I'd like to look into the possibility of improving the manual shifter. I'm looking for more of that 'rifle bolt' feel. Anyone know anything about this kind of thing? Can it be improved in this way?

To be honest not sure what a short shift is. I'm looking for a greater feel of 'clunk' and more rigidity as it goes in - something that makes me feel 100% confident that it's in rather than the present 95%. Hard to explain lol. Thanks.

You can buy an original Porsche short shifter from the main dealers. I had one priced up last year from Porsche in Leeds. It was around £400 all in and fitted, inc VAT. Heres the link:

Click on the sport section and it opens the Tequipment catalogue in Adobe format. Flick through the pages and you should see it.
Still thinking about getting it fitted myself.

Has anyone tried the more economical install? I've heard from a guy who heard from a guy who heard from his long lost relative that they are 'fidgety' but before i fork out almost half a grand on an OEM one, i'd like to make sure the one 10 times cheaper that looks just as well made doesn't do the same job.

Well, i just bit the bullet and ordered the £50 from ebay. i figure either I've saved £350 or thrown out £50. Chances are, I won't install it myself to avoid any swearing or bias one way or the other. I figure £40/hour at an indie for 2 hrs with £50 for parts is still cheaper than installing a factory one by myself.
I'll post an update how the gamble goes.

Update:
I ordered the short shifter from ebay and had it installed by Wilsons garage. All up about £120 including labor. Crisp short shifts and definitely cheaper than a Porsche part. Very well made but no instructions included. A little stiff in reverse but not too bad. I would definitely recommend going this route if you don't have £400 to spend on an OEM one.
