dunno, number plate keeps dropping off , and it might rain !!!!!

My number plate (rear) is causing me problems keeps falling off , it is fixed directly to the car by 5 sticky strips , which I have recently renewed , I thought it was really secure , but the car was sitting in the sun yesterday (after the 2 new front tyres) when I returned to the car the number plate was on the ground again!! I think the problem is that the plate is bent following the shape of the car behind the number plate , and it puts stress on the sticky strips which have heated in the sun , softened and lost adhesion ? I am trying to avoid using bolts to hold it on . Do they fix number plates straight on the car on a 993 or do the usually have those sort of backing plates which follow the shape of the car but allow the plate to remain flat ?

I had the same problem on mine, it used to fall off at the most embarrassing times, usually when I was showing it off to friends for the first time. "Ha ha, nice car, shame the numnber plate has fallen off".

In the end I used 'industrial' velcro that you can get from B&Q etc. I cleaned all the old sticky gunk off with petrol and then put the plate back on with the velcro, the glue they use on the backing is good. I've not had any problems since and I pressure wash the car regularly. The good thing is that you can reposition it quite easily if you don't get it on straight the first time and it was much easier to change the plates when I put a new registration on the car.

Thanks mate , sadly I have to go back to France on Wednesday for a few weeks so I will miss Poole Quay It is very kind of you to offer the velcro , but by the time the post arrives I will be gone and I would like to use the car over the weekend , so I had better nip up to B&Q and get a bit , thanks again , see you soon , sorry I did not get to Tuesday's meet , but as you probably saw I had a bottle neck through one of my front tyres during Tuesday and could not get a pair of tyres until Wednesday
