964 Windshield Wiper Motor/Pump Location

Post by allanjenkins »

I've checked in the 964 manual for the location of the windshield wiper motor/pump unit.

It states it's located ahead of the battery in the front luggage area. It must be hiding as it's nowhere to be seen at that location.

Was thinking it might be next to the water reservoir under the nearside wheel arch?

Can anyone help me on this one?

Thanks,

Allan.

Hi

If you are after the main screen washer pump it is attached to the washer bottle which is in the passenger side front wing. Access is after removing front wheel & internal wing protectors. If memory serves there are two bolts one front & one rear of tank.

Hope this helps

Don't know about '64 but on the 993, just pop out the headlamp unit behind which is the washer tank and the 2 pump motors.

Sure enough after removing the wing protectors and the two bolts holding the tank in place, it was just necessary to lower the tank to see the two washer pumps. The screen washer has the smaller tubing attached to it, the other is for the headlamp wash system. The pump just pulls out of a sealing ring in the tank. Tested the pump on the bench, although the motor still works the drive is defunct.

Phoned around for replacement prices, and as usual Leicester OPC is cheapest with next day availability.

The arrangement is not the same as the 993 as there's no access through the headlamp unit.

All is back together and working with the new pump in place.

Thought I'd have a look at the old unit, let it soak in a de-scaling solution overnight, connected it to a 12 volt supply, tapped the unit on the bench, and it now works, so I've got a spare.
