The dreaded headlight lense burn!

Post by Geeman »

So... it turns out, in his infinite wisdom, the previous owner of my 996 decided to put 100w bulbs into the dipped beam. He can't have used his headlights since putting them in though...

As you can imagine, with the bad weather and darker evenings, I've had the headlights on. Unbeknown to me, this caused the lense to become burned. I noticed a small about of "browning" in a localised area that I thought was getting worse (or was I being paranoid?) so I took the headlight unit out to investigate why the lens was getting burnt and found the high power bulbs in there. In the short term, I've swapped out the original 55w bulbs from the high beam and put the 100w bulbs in their place.

So... my question is this; can I replace just the headlight lense without having to replace the whole (expensive) unit?

Cheers,

Giles

There's a few threads on the net about taking your headlight apart after putting it in the oven ( I kid you not...lol) maybe it will polish out once taken apart? I used to read up on de-ambering the wife's Boxster headlights until I finally decided they didn't look that bad after all :)
I actually had 7+9 fuchs on mine.....
