Cool!

In como tonight been over grimsel, furka and gotthard passes. Furka is nearly 2500m altitude and very narrow at the top, we were scared! Precious little edge protection and suicide bikers! Vertigo :D

Day 5, a James Bond theme running today.... :director2:

Day 5 - Wednesday 25th September 2013 - Chur to Mulhouse - 240 miles totalAfter breakfast depart hotel at 09.00.

Follow Sat Nav Route “13.09 TIPEC Day 5” - Chur to Altdorf - 140 miles - 4 hours.

A couple of small petrol stations just after setting off should set us up for today if you didn’t top up last night. We begin with a drive along the Rhein valley through countryside which gets evermore spectacular until we reach the impressive Oberalpsee (see POI 11) and then cross the Oberalpstrasse (see POI 12) into Andermatt. Here we can pause to refuel and get a coffee before continuing to another of the tours highlights, the Furka Pass (see POI 13). Continuing through spectacular scenery we then cross the Grimsel Pass (see POI 14) and the Susten Pass (see POI 15) before joining the motorway where we will stop to refuel and for something to eat at the Altdorf Services.

Leave the Altdorf Services and continue to follow Sat Nav Route “13.09 TIPEC Day 5” - Altdorf to Mulhouse - 100 miles - 1.75 hours.

The last leg for today takes us through northern Switzerland on the motorway, crossing the French border at Basle and then onto our hotel for the evening in Mulhouse (see Hotel Details Day 5).

As always, more tomorrow....

..and Day 6 :D

Day 6 - Thursday 26th September 2013 - Mulhouse to Pont-a-Mousson - 145 miles total
After breakfast depart hotel at 09.30.

Follow Sat Nav Route “13.09 TIPEC Day 6am” - Mulhouse to Schlumpf Museum - 1 mile - 5 minutes.
We have a very short drive to the Schlumpf museum (see POI 16) where we will spend all morning and take the opportunity to have lunch in the museum restaurant.
Leaving the Schlumpf museum at 13.30 we follow Sat Nav Route “13.09 TIPEC Day 6pm” - Schlumpf museum to Pont-a-Mousson - 144 miles - 4 hours.

Driving through some pretty villages we will fill up with petrol near Mittelwihr on the “Alsace wineroute” which we will follow as far as Ribeauville where we will turn north west into the Vosges crossing the Col de Haut Ribeauville and the Col de Ste-Marie on our way to our evening hotel, a converted Abbey in Pont-a-Mousson (see Hotel Details Day 6). Prior to arriving at the hotel it will be worth filling up at the Total garage on the way in. Although its position on the opposite side of the road is not ideal, it will help tomorrow’s itinerary to begin with a full tank.

More tomorrow :bounce:

Wayne, the route is fine, we wouldn't take you anywhere dangerous. Camper vans and coaches do this route (which is frustrating if you get stuck behind one). We did it in below zero temperatures and snow and fog earlier in the year. Don't forget this is Switzerland, the home of Safety!!

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure I'll be bricking it too! I remember my first time in a car in the Dolomites was pretty terrifying. I was 11years old in the back of a Passat driven by a local who was very familiar with the roads. The scariest bit was seeing the coaches swing their front ends out, seemingly into thin air...

I'm familiar with mountains and altitude but being behind the wheel and being on the outside lane with no barrier will be clench-inducing I'm sure :D

Sorry that was meant to be a bit tongue in cheek not to frighten anyone! No need for alternative route it will be fine, more exhilarating than scary! As said Ive also done these type of passes on summer tyres in January in the 911 there's nothing to worry about!
