Program of events for 2018

January

Monday 15th: Club Night

Not a bad start for our relaunch of TIPEC Yorkshire Region, 13 people rocked up at the Red Lion on what was a cold, dark & damp night. In the car park I spotted a 924, 2x 944, 928, 986 & a 997. There was plenty of discussion about the planing of events going forward. The Landlord brought a couple of generously proportioned bowls of chips with dips for us to dig into whilst we talked which was great. There was also some news about the 2nd Northernish Gathering. A big thanks to all who turned out and to Richard & Colin from the NW Region, and Ray from SYNN who traveled over to show their support, I look forward to seeing you all and more at our February Club Night.👍

February

Monday 19th: Club Night

Another good turn out for our second club meeting of 2018. This time I counted 14 people including quite a few new faces, which is great considering the time of year, so thanks for making the effort to come along. We had some good banter, talking cars and events for the year ahead. Plus, chicken goujons (nuggets??) and chips provided by the lovely folk at the Red Lion. I’m told the food will be even better next time :-). Our next event is on Sunday with a gathering at Jem Speed Shop in Batley and a drive over to Holmfirth. It will be my first proper outing with the region in the 2 years I have been a member, so fingers crossed it goes well and I hope to see plenty of you there!

Sunday 25th: Jem Speed Shop – Brunch (10.30am) and drive out to Holmfirth

Our first event of the year and it was a success (almost)! Meeting on time at JEM Speed Shop in Batley, around 30 Porsches from Yorkshire and North West TIPEC regions arrived, filled the street outside the motorbike showroom/diner/retro-store/barber/bar (is there anything that they haven’t managed to squeeze into the place?) and tried to find the carpark (oh dear…). It turns out there had been a mix up between our event and another planned by the Ford Owners Club. Oh well, we all found a spot either on street or in another carpark down the road and piled into JEM Speed Shop for some grub. For many, me included, it was a first visit, and it turns out it is an interesting place with lots to look at considering the limited space, even for those less interested in things petrol related (the kids particularly enjoying the Doctor Who-esque Police box). After brunch the regions parted ways, with around 10 cars taking part in our run out to Holmefirth, driving through the town and up the hill to Holme Moss carpark. The views from up there were stunning, but although the skies were clear and the sun was out, it was also freezing cold so, after a chat and photo shoot, we drove on to the Dog and Partridge, where the fire was blazing, for a hot drink to warm us up before heading home. All in all, it was a grand and enjoyable day out.

March

Sunday 4th: AGM at Coventry Motor Museum

Monday 19th: Club Night

We had another successful club meeting back in March, with 15 people in attendance and 10 Porsches. This meeting was of note because the numbers weren’t bolstered by members and ROs from other regions. Hopefully this will continue and we will build on these numbers throughout the year.

April

Sunday 15th: Second Northern’ish Gathering

Wow! What an amazing gathering this was. Arriving at the Wellington at 8.30am I was guided into the carpark by North West RO’s Richard and Colin (plus family members). There were already a number of cars there but I did not expect that there would really be 90 Porsches together before we parted ways in the afternoon. Breakfast at The Wellington was a buffet affair which was ideal considering the sporadic arrival of TIPEC members from across the north(ish) and I for one was happy to fill up on bacon, eggs, sausage and a bottomless cup of tea (not a cup without a bottom). After a good chat and kick of types we headed off for Knaresborough where we would all meet up again at Nidd Valley Business Park, hidden away off a country road I would never have noticed it if my Sat Nav wasn’t telling me to turn right. There we spent a good couple of hours looking around RPM, Gmund Cars and Reep Detailing, chatting some more and meeting new friends. Oh and before I forget, there were some amazing cars out for the day (not all 944s :-)). Thanks to the organisers, Colin and Richard, and to everyone who made it. A great day out which we are all looking forward to be repeated next year.

Monday 16th: Club Night – cancelled due to refurbishment at the Red Lion

Monday 30th: Curry Night – Aagrah Tadcaster (A64) 7.30pm

A great evening was had by all at our first Curry Night of the year. We had 13 people round the table at the Aagrah outside Tadcaster, including several new faces to the club, and 10 Porsches parked outside. As always we had good chat and a laugh over the food and a bit of look at the cars before heading home. I’m sure we will be having another one before the end of the year so let me know if you’d like come along.
