The road trip as always was an adventure from start to finish…. though what would you expect!! The atmosphere around circuit was electric as always with so much to see and do, the infield club stand was right by the track. Though our weekend of the year didn’t solely consist of racing we also explored the tardis motor museum in Loheac before heading over to Dinan to enjoy the stunning medieval town before heading home. Once again a massive thanks to both Barry & Dave for your amazing organisational skills of another truly fantastic trip and roll on 2020…. also keep your eyes peeled for our 2019 plans too August saw a twenty Porsche strong display on our annual club stand at Tatton Passion of Power, each day included every model of transaxle, various 911’s both air and water cooled. As always the club stove was ready and been manned by Tony and Sharon with the bacon buttties, tea and coffee flowing – thank you as always. We celebrated both 70 years of Porsche as well as the clubs 25th birthday over the weekend display – Hedley’s gorgeous Boxster even picked up best sports car trophy too. Our annual Concours Night was held in August…… Wow what a colourful car park we had, there were 30+ porkers parked up all looking sparkly and proud while they were been judged – it really was hard as so many of these stunners are used, abused, loved and sworn at regularly – in the end there was only a few points in it. So after further checks by the judges and a lot of window twitching Chris, John, Adam & Ian had all came to a unanimous decision and the results were; 3rd place went to – Hedley Gaynon’s Boxster 2nd place went to – Ian Harben’s 997 GTS 1st place went to – Barry Stenhouse’s 964 To add a twist to this years judging we added in a members choice vote too – this was solely down to a vote of “what is your fav car” so there are a few cars within our region that are special and have special meaning to members. Though there is one members car that has a truly spectacular reputation within the region and beyond, is admired where ever it goes and is a proper head turn – so the winner was Pete’s 930 (special edition) aka Darth Vader. Not only did Hedley, Ian, Barry and Pete receive trophies they also had some goodies curtsey of Adam Calvert of Porsche Centre Bolton – our guest judge The bank holiday weekend may have been a little wet but that didn’t stop many of us watching the racing at Oulton Gold Cup over the three days, as always there was a variety of beauties on and off circuit. Visibility wasn’t good on circuit from the spray on the Saturday and Sunday which in turn led to a few incidents on track, though Monday saw the brighter of the three days. June 2018 update Ahead of the Weekend of the Year trip to Le Mans, we’ve had some fantastic days out again lately, most notable has been Porsches on the Prom at Llandudno where we joined over 700 other Porsches in a spectacular array along the seafront and a number of you headed out on the Weaver Wander from Nantwich as well as to Capesthorne and Gawsworth Halls. The Tatton Car Show was enjoyed by over 80 car clubs and it was a phenomenally proud moment for the region to have won a second prize in the awards for the Club Stands and it was well deserved indeed! We had around 30 cars on each day and well over 50 members enjoying the hospitality with teas, coffees and bacon barms served aplenty by Tony Gale and Sharon Hulme – huge thanks to you both for your efforts! It’s been a fantastic summer so far with a number of car shows culminating at Cholmondeley Castle for the 70th Celebrations of the first Porsche 356 being launched on the 8th of June in 1948. It was also cause for celebration if you managed to get fed and watered but it was a great day all round that culminated in a wonderful meal and get together at the Red Lion in Pickmere on the Saturday evening. It was yet another marvellous Cheshire & Staffs day out at Trentham Gardens along with the guys and girls from Central region. 16 cars and pretty much 30 members all making short work of the tea and coffee and almost 40 bacon barms! As well as the wonderful array of Porsches on the stand there were some very nice cars out there including a 1985 Carrera 3.2 and an early 911SC… The day was nicely topped off again with a very pleasant pint and a meal at Neil Morrisey’s place, The Plume of Feathers. Thanks to everyone that came out to the Kilton Inn for the club nights with the June meeting welcoming 33 members in over 25 cars including some stunning Porsche’s from the 944’s in coupe and cab form, 928’s to 986, 987 and 718 Boxster to pretty much the whole range of 911’s including two Carrera 4S, GTS, 991, 997 and 996’s and beautiful classics from Ford, Lotus, Triumph, Peugeot and Robs magnificent Ford Zephyr convertible… It’s been a very full 2018 as far as “shows” are concerned so we’re aiming to have a few more driving and activity led days out as we move through the summer – watch this space and the Facebook page for news and events coming to your Porsche soon! April 2018 update The winter weather of March may have hampered some of the events organised but that didn’t stop a hardy group supporting the Galloways 150th birthday celebrations or the Breakfast at the Brewery and thankfully April cleared up just enough for the convoy that headed to Lytham Spitfire Centre to see the superb display of aircraft and to chat with the volunteers (in period attire) about the aircrafts role swiftly followed by proper Fish & Chips on the sea front! Two convoys headed across to the Northern-ish gathering that you have read about already with 3 Boxster’s and a full compliment of transaxles heading through the foggy Peak District, the roofs came down when the early morning fog blew away and a picturesque drive was had. It was a sight to see with some many fellow region members all for breakfast. On route to Gmund the Rothmans exhaust clamp failed… after some DIY with a few bungee cords we were back on the road. However our scenic drive for some tea saw the Rothmans over heat and some more roadside mechanics got her underway again!!! The failure of the light switch at the last halt almost lead to a Top Gear moment but food beckoned! Needless to say C&S lives up to adventure and doesn’t let such issues phase them!! More recently, we joined our fellow members from Central region at Trentham Garden Centre for a breakfast meet and it was great to see familiar faces and new ones as well. After that Gareth and Stef took us in a most excellent route across the Peaks with stunning scenery and even some sunshine. After a stop at Yonderman Cafe we headed off again finishing up for a final bite to eat at The Talbot pub near Biddulph. “Wow!” it was probably the best £50 I’ve spent on fuel recently. With many miles under the belt and only 18 miles of fuel left in the tank at the end but a phone full of pics and dash cam full of video… all can be seen on the regions Facebook page! December 2017 update With the autumn season fast approaching winter our region continued to enjoy our beauties as much as possible….. Anglesey track day was an enjoyable day by all, there were many twists, spins, turns and off-roading along with way with John’s 911 super sport doing pirouettes, Chris’s 924 eating up the circuit and grass (oopsy Ian!!). The club garage came in handy for some running repairs and Rob managed to capture some beautiful photos too. It wouldn’t be tradition if Terry or Ben didn’t have a mishap on or off track…and true form was maintained with a dink to the front!!! As you can imagine a memorable day was had by all, so look out for 2018 club trip to the Anglesey Circuit. Mid November our region were honoured to add a few Porsches to a fellow petrol heads dream of experiencing 100 different cars before he is no longer able to, his diagnosis means that he isn’t blessed with much time and is no longer able to drive himself….. So Gareth and Stefanie organised a meet at their workshop with 10 Porkers from 924, 944, 928, Boxster, as well as a Subaru Impreza with a 400bhp forged engine. Connor was humbled at how many club members attended for him and enjoyed everyone’s beauties taking his total to 77 out of 100 when he left. A massive thank you to everyone who joined us and also for matching the £5 donation Connor made for each experience to the Teenage Cancer Trust in his honour. November was our first club night at the Kilton Arms which saw a splendid turnout of 35+ members in the room as well as welcoming many new members also. It was nice to hear that no-one forgot the change of venue too!!! In December 7 Porsches took to the road for our last scenic drive around the Peak District for 2018, with clear open roads we stretched our beauties legs before having a pit stop at Buxton bookstore….this is an Aladdin’s cave of many many books, with the gents in the motor section the ladies enjoyed the many other selections before enjoying a long awaited cup of tea!!! Once everyone was refuelled we headed to Sutton Hall, near Macclesfield for our Christmas meal to round up an action packed year of adventures for our region. Our annual Christmas meal and club night saw 30+ members join in the festivities with good food, friends and raffle prizes… Everyone reminisced on 2017 antics as well as planning for our road trip for Le Mans Classic 2018. Our regions 928 lovers also had the pleasure of admiring Andrew’s newest addition in the form of a S4 shark…. Watch out Stef is liking this 928’s exhaust for her 928 as its even louder than Cassie’s. Also a massive thank you to everyone who donated raffle prizes…. Terry and Ben also walked away with quite a few prizes under their arms too… PAST CHESHIRE & STAFFS EVENTS 4th – 9th Jul 2018 Biennial Weekend of the Year (WOTY) and road trip to the Le Mans Classic. 5th August Run to Lakeland Motor Museum and Car Meet. 28-30th July Silverstone Classic. 18th June Trentham Gardens Transport Show. 3rd – 4th June Tatton Park Classic & Sportscar Show. 27th May Weaver Wander (entry forms available now). Our annual New Year run became a transaxle meet with four 928’s and a 944 cab. A sedate drive through the peak district was followed with a photo opportunity in the quaint village of Tissington, before lunch. Once fed and watered, we continued through the peak district before our distinctive convoy headed home their separate ways. 20th DEC – Cheshire & Staffs Club Night, Whipping Stocks. A group of 21 sat down for our Christmas meal at the December meeting. It was good to see faces old and new. We discussed events for this coming year, some of which is still fluid. We have lots planned and have also agreed to do more in 2017 with neighbouring TiPEC regions. 19th DEC – Run and Photoshoot At RAF Cosford. On 19th December 6 Porsches and a VW (imposter!) had a scenic drive across to RAF Cosford for a photo opportunity under the wing of the Nimrod outside the museum. Given that she organised it, we let Stef’s Sirocco muscle in on the end!! We would like to extend a special thank you to Matt Smithers for arranging the photo opportunity – just a shame you didn’t have your 968 with you. 26th NOV – 928UK Annual Meet. The last weekend in November saw the annual 928UK sharkfest take place at the Merry Miller in Oxfordshire. Three TiPEC 928s met up with two PCGB owners on route to a gathering of 38 Porsche 928’s. Not a sight you see every day. 15th NOV – Cheshire & Staffs Club Night, Whipping Stocks. Our November meeting was a social gathering with a good turnout of around 20 members. 11th-13th NOV – TiPEC Club Stand, NEC Classic Motor Show. Our region was also represented at the NEC Classic Motor Show with Dave’s 914 on display amongst a great mix of Porsches on the TiPEC stand. This month it was on the Porsche 914. Dave was well placed to describe then highs and lows of 914 ownership, having restored one himself. 11th SEP – Peak District Run. Gareth and Stefanie organised another very enjoyable day out into the Peak District. We got the weather and a great turnout of 11 cars, ranging from 944s and 928s, 911s to Boxsters and Caymans. 27th-29th AUG – Oulton Park Gold Cup Cheshire & Staffs had a Club Stand at the Oulton Park Gold Cup meeting, held over the bank holiday weekend. We had 12 Porsches on Saturday and 16 on Sunday. The weather was better than expected with glorious sunshine on both days. It was great to get up close to the classic racing cars in the pits, and to see them raced as intended around Oulton. It was also nice to see a ’78 924 in the paddocks. The owner informed us that the car had stood for the last 10 years. He was now getting it back onto the track, with the Gold Cup being only his second track event since getting the car back on the road. It was great to see him in action. 20th-21st AUG – Tatton Park Passion of Power Event This was our annual late summer club display at Tatton Passion of Power. Despite the rainy weather we had a fantastic display on both days. The autojumble was a useful source of materials. Hopefully Chris Hulme’s 924 Rothmans should have a water-tight boot now!! A few club members camped at Tatton, which added to the social scene of the event and resulted in an impromptu display of 6 Porsches parked around the caravan, motorhome and tent. It was a lovely weekend, one that we will look forward to again next year. 16th AUG – Cheshire & Staffs Club Night, Whipping Stocks. August club night was a social evening where everyone could chat about everything Porsche. The glorious evening bought out 30+ Porsches, with everyone sitting outside admiring the beautiful display in the car park over some drinks. It was great to see some new club members and to welcome the partners of several members who came along on the night. 7th AUG – North Wales Run. This was a picnic run to Lake Vyrnwy. We had 8 Porsches and a Peugeot in the convoy that was led by Gareth in his 944 Turbo. It was a lovely drive out on the many scenic roads leading into Wales, followed by a lunch stop at Lake Vyrnwy itself. After everyone had re-fuelled with their picnics, the group headed off for a steady drive around the lake followed by a leisurely drive through more beautiful Welsh scenery. It was nice to see Brian’s Boxster stretching its legs, and fun to be in convoy with several nice cars. However, we found out the hard way that there are very few petrol stations in rural Wales – which was a little concerning for Stuart in his 911 as he was starting to run on fumes. So our local Welshman (Gary) came to the rescue in his 911 RSR and navigated us to the location of the nearest petrol station. 29th-31st JUL – Silverstone Classic A small group of members went to the Silverstone Classic where they were able to enjoy a very well run event with amazing classic cars, excellent classic racing and a huge array of club displays. Porsche Cars put on a big display with their annual Porsche Centres restoration competition. This judged all the classic Porsches restored by main dealers. It was great to see Porsche Centre Bolton’s 924 Carrera GT that several members had seen at the beginning of the month. There were 30+ cars in the Porsche Turbo display and Dave Watson’s 930 picked up the ‘Best 930’ award. 19th JUL – Cheshire & Staffs Club Night, Whipping Stocks. Our annual Pride of Ownership Concours was held at the July Club Night. We had a fantastic turnout of 30+ Porsches. Everyone enjoyed a very pleasant summers evening admiring the vast variety of Porsches in the car park. There were several transaxle models, classic and modern 911’s, Boxsters, John’s 914 and Graeme’s Cayenne. The Cheshire & Staffs scoring system is based on interior and exterior condition only, weighted for mileage. A further ‘Members’ Choice’ vote adds an additional weighting to make the result as fair as possible. Last year’s winner, Bob McWilliam joined Dave as the judges whilst everyone was chatting and choosing their favourite car of the evening. 3rd place was awarded to John Pye’s 996 Turbo, 2nd place was awarded to John Biddulph’s 964 RS and 1st place was awarded to John Tonkin’s 911 Carrera Supersport. 6th-12th JUL – Cheshire & Staffs Weekend of the Year, Le Mans Classic.
10 Cars and 21 Club members hit the road for the bi-annual road trip to Le Mans. The Le Mans Classic was a spectacular event. The racing was second to none with some amazing cars going round the track. Barry enjoyed some parade laps around the circuit with Dave as co-pilot which was a great experience. The group continued their adventure after Le Mans and travelled on to Le Manoir de L’Automobile in Loheac. (Thanks go to Rob Slater for suggesting that we add this museum to the itinerary). This place was like a rabbit warren and had cars that even had our fellow car nerds were in awe of. We then headed to Dinan for a very pleasant stopover and meal in the old town, not far from St Malo. The group then split up with some heading back to the fast ferry at Cherbourg, and others continuing their adventures.
21st JUN – Cheshire & Staffs Club Night, Whipping Stocks. June Club Night had a fantastic turn out of Porsche’s and everyone was able to learn from Dave about detailing their Porsches in preparation for our annual Pride of Ownership Concours at club night next month. We had 28 Porsche’s in the car park! The most popular was Craig Pye’s first Porsche, his ‘new to him’ 924S which came to C&S first club night. Lovely looking car in red. Great buy Craig – hope you enjoy it. 19th JUN – Trentham Transport Show.
The Trentham Transport Show followed shortly after the Tatton show. Again we had a lovely turn out of various Porsche’s from 924 to a Cayenne (4×4), we also had the pleasure of our guests from Central Region, which made a combined stand of 17 cars on display. Stefanie, Nigel and Luzkas were able to get some great pictures of our club members and their cars as they drove into the event.
4th-5th JUN – Tatton Park Classic and Sportscar Show.
What a fantastic weekend we all had at the Tatton Classic and Performance Car Show at the beginning of June. There were 21 Porsches on our stand during Saturday and 22 on Sunday, which rather overshadowed our rival club stand behind us. The Club’s stand got lots of attention, particularly due to the extensive range of models on display. Though the two most striking were Fraser Pemberton’s 928 police car and Chris Hulme’s 924 Rothmans tribute. The combination of lovely weather and a great turn-out of beautiful cars saw the region/club win its first award for 2016.
22nd MAY – Porsches on the Prom, Llandudno.
Porsches on the Prom was another good turnout, organized by PCGB. Our region and North West region joined up at Lymm services for an amazing convoy of around 30 cars to Llandudno. The promenade was lined both sides with all models of Porsche on display.
17th MAY – Cheshire & Staffs Club Night, Whipping Stocks.
May’s club night had a good attendance of 30 club members for Gareth’s Marque Essentials talk on the 924. An educational evening was had, with some good discussions on the 924 as well as a look into Gareth’s ever growing collection of 924’s and their various stages of restoration. We also had 6 new club members that were welcomed to the region; one new member brought their beautiful 356 as well.9th MAY – Cholmondeley Arms Classic Car Meet. The great weather brought all manner of classic cars out for the annual Cholmondeley Arms Classic Car meet. 11 members from the region turned up with three 914s, two 928s, two 3.2 Carrera, two 996s, a 944 and a 964 in attendance. 1st MAY – Stanford Hall VW Show. Several of the 914 owners in the group attended the Stanford Hall VW Show. Our cars formed part of a joint DDK / TiPEC / PCGB 914 display comprising 12 cars on the club stand area and a further 4 in the councours. It demonstrates how popular the 914 has become. 1st MAY – Donington Historic Festival. A small group of us attended the annual Historic Racing car festival at Donington. TiPEC was reasonably well represented and as usual the racing was intense and enjoyable. 8th APR – Pub Grub Run to Ryles Arms, Macclesfield. A dozen of us turned out for what was a very pleasant meal with excellent food and great company. Food portion sizes were enormous! Club Vice Chairman, Tony joined us and all had a good night out. 18th MAR – VIP Tour, JCB Factory and World Head Quarters, Staffs. A group of 20 of us spent an enjoyable morning at JCB. We were fortunate to have the personal attention of a large team of knowledgeable tour guides. The day started with a video presentation outlining the company’s history and key product lines, followed by a step by step tour around the production facilities, their in-house museum and exhibition areas. It was a hugely impressive story of innovation and entrepreneurial spirit. Everyone seemed to enjoy the event and a number of us then stopped for a very pleasant lunch at the local Denstone Farm shop (highly recommended). 15th MAR – Club Night at The Whipping Stocks. The March Club Meeting was spent discussing fixtures for the coming show and events season. 11th MAR – RS Day at Oulton Park. A combined Cheshire & Staffs and North West group attended the annual RS Day at Oulton Park. There were some nice cars out of track and an equally interesting display of Porsches in the paddock car park. 21st FEB – Run to Dubfreeze. Stafford County Show Ground. This was our second year at this show. A group of six Porsches made it to the event, with a couple of our members also exhibiting VWs indoors. As usual it was a good should though again lived up to its name in temperature.. 16th FEB – Club Night at The Whipping Stocks. We had another packed room at the Whipping Stocks for the February meeting. Our guest speakers, the two Steves from Leathercare in Warrington offered a fascinating insight into the methods of preparing and preserving leather and their re-connolising and seat restoration services. They brought along some samples and some of their own-brand leather care products. 19th JAN – Club Night at The Whipping Stocks. Dave Watson presented our latest ‘Marque Essentials’ presentation, this time on the Porsche 914. A good turnout attended to hear all that’s good and bad about a 914. 3rd JAN – Annual New Year’s Drive & Lunch. Stef and Gareth organised a great run through the Peak District for our first foray into 2016. Unfortunately the weather was awful, though despite this we had a turnout of 23 in a multitude of Porsches. Ian Highfield’s 928 became a true ‘land-shark’ through the water-splash on route! 15th DEC – Club Night at The Whipping Stocks. We had a packed room with nearly 30 members in attendance for our final meeting of 2015. Great to see so many turn up for a bite to eat/Christmas meal and then reminisce about event of the previous 12 months whilst watching the 200+ slide show Stef organised. 21st NOV – Merry Miller Porsche 928 UK Meeting. A couple of us made it down to Oxfordshire for the annual 928UK meeting at the Merry Miller. Quite a sight to see with over 30 928s in attendance. 17th NOV – Club Night at The Whipping Stocks Pub. Due to the postponement of a guest speaker, Dave Watson did a talk to a relatively busy room on the Porsche 928, ‘Model Essentials’. This explained the history of the model and some buyer’s tips. 13th – 15th NOV – NEC Classic Motor Show. Dave Watson had his car on show on the National Club stand at the NEC. It was nice to see so many members stop by for a chat over the weekend. The event was well supported by the Midlands and Cheshire & Staffs regions with several North West faces appearing over the course of the show. 20th OCT – Club Night at The Whipping Stocks. Our October meeting had another quiz night, this time George Price’s Model Car Quiz. It was a case of guess the model of car! We had a great turnout of 24 members with one of our newest recruits (again!) running off with first prize, a model of a blower Bentley, from the Bentley factory. Thank you George for organising an excellent evening. 11th OCT – Run to RAF Cosford Aircraft Museum, Shropshire. A lovely fresh October morning started at the whipping stocks for a well-attended scenic drive to the RAF Cosford Air Museum. 15 Porsches took position under the wings of the Nimrod, albeit in groups of 5 for a perfect photo opportunity. The event was organised by club member Chris Hulme – thank you Chris for an excellent day out! After the photo shoot (pictures courtesy Lukasz Dulski) we all had a leisurely walk around the (free entry) museum admiring both the diversity and scale of the aircraft exhibits on display. 20th SEP – 911 & Porscheworld Picnic, Maple Durham. A handful of members from the region made it down to the 911 & Porscheworld magazine picnic, and met up with other TiPEC regions on what was a very pleasant event. 15th – 19th SEP – Weekend of the Year to Stuttgart. Factory & Museum Tour. A group of 14 Cheshire & Staffs members and friends spent a very enjoyable time in Stuttgart. We had an organised Porsche factory tour, a leisurely visit to the Porsche Museum and Mercedes-Benz Museum, and managed to squeeze in a day trip to Stuttgart Motorworld and the V8 Hotel. All in all, it was petrol-head heaven! The trip started with an excellent day at the Mercedes Museum where we were fortunate to see the special C111 exhibition on at the time. We then spent a morning at the Porsche Museum – a must visit experience if you have not yet had the chance…. Followed by the highlight of the trip, a tour round the Zuffenhausen Factory… Before we headed back, we managed to make it across town to Stuttgart Motorworld and the V8 Hotel – another must see for classic and sportscar enthusiasts… 15th SEP – Club Night at the Whipping Stocks. Our September club night clashed with our WOTY to Stuttgart. Despite this we still had a good turnout of over 20 members. Stefanie organised a quiz with one of our newest recruits coming out on top! 29th – 31st AUG – Oulton Park Gold Cup Meeting. We had a Club stand at the Oulton Gold Cup weekend, and as usual there was some very entertaining racing. Thanks go to Ian Highfield for helping run the stand over the weekend, and to Gary Ince for organising the tickets. The weather was a little mixed, but not enough to dampen the enthusiasm of drivers and spectators alike. The pits had some nice machinery on display too…. 23rd AUG – Cars and Coffee Liverpool. A few members made the trip down to Liverpool docks to attend the monthly meeting of Cars and Coffee at the Chung Ku. This has grown from small beginnings into something that has the makings of fast running out of space. An idea from stateside that seems to be taking off… Pictures courtesy of Mike Gannon, including a nice one of Mark’s 3.3 Turbo. 22nd – 23rd AUG – Tatton Park Passion For Power Show. Despite the holiday season, we had a good attendance at the second Tatton show of the season. The weather was kind and we signed up a number of new members. Welcome to you all! 18th AUG – Club Night at the Whipping Stocks. We had a great evening at our August meet with nearly 25 people crammed into the room to hear the presentation from Adam Calvert and Steve Webb of Porsche Centre Bolton. I would like to thank them both for the effort they took in coming down to Cheshire to see us. The quiz was a real mind bender with probably the all time record poorest scores recorded! It was fun though, and is great to see some mutual support between a Porsche main dealer and the club. We will be organising a run up to Bolton to attend their open day on the 26th September. Mark it in your diaries! 24th – 26th JUL – Silverstone Classic. A few of us made it down to the Silverstone Classic weekend. Weather on the Friday and Sunday took the edge of things but Saturday was glorious. Some lovely cars on display on the Porsche Cars stand, with some nice machinery out on track and in the auction. 21st JUL – Club Night. Annual Concours. As usual we had a good attendance on our annual Pride of Ownership Concours evening. We had some 17 cars participating which made for a nice display of variety. Thank you to you all for preparing your cars for the competition. It was a good evening. Results: 1st Place – Bob McWilliam 911 3.2 Carrera 2nd Place – John Biddulph 911 3.2 Carrera Hotrod 3rd Place – Matt Webb 914-4 10th JUL – Pub Grub Run. Three Greyhounds. A pleasant evening was had by all. The weather held up and we had a couple of 911s, a Cayman and a Boxster turn up for a social and plenty of good food. Yet to have a bad meal here. We’ll do this again soon. 25th JUN – Inside Classic Event with Fuzz Townshend. A group of us attended the ‘Inside Classics’ event at the Tollemache Arms, near Tarporley on the 25th Jun. This meeting was hosted by Fuzz Townshend and Carole Nash Insurance, with the club well represented on the night. Good food (including a hog roast) was laid on during this informal gathering, with the weather bringing out a nice range of cars. 21st JUN – Trentham Gardens Classic Car Show. 21st Jun saw us get together at the Trentham Gardens Classic Car Show, we had a turn out of 9 Porsches, with a further 5 from Central Region. We had a lovely backdrop of Trentham lake to our stand with many admiring our cars. The weather stayed dry and we were also able to have a wonder around the 900+ classics on display. (Pictures courtesy of Lukasz Dulski) 16th JUN – Cheshire & Staffs Club Night at Unit11 Porsche, Warrington. Our thanks go to John Holland and Danny Fitzsimmons at Unit Eleven Porsche Specialists, who opened their doors to the club so that we could hold our June cub meeting at their premises. The hospitality was second to none. The lovely weather bought a wide variety of cars out, with over 30 Porsches in attendance, including a 993 RS, a 964 RS, a 911 anniversary edition, a 914, 930 flat nose and a 944 that has been converted into a track car by unit eleven, to name a few. Some members had their cars on the ramps and the helpful crew at Unit Eleven had a look over them. It was a good evening with nice people and nice cars. 30th – 31st MAY – Tatton Park Classic and Performance Car Show. Tatton Park Classic and Performance Car Show saw a good turn out of cars on both days on our club stand. A highlight was seeing two of the ten UK 911 Celebration Targas together ‘the twins’. Spirits were kept high even with the show of rain on Sunday. There were 18 Cars in attendance on Saturday and 17 on Sunday – thank you to all that supported this weekend. This event saw the club win another award, the second in two consecutive weeks. 23rd MAY – Weaver Wander Charity Run. A number of the region’s club members attended the Weaver Wonder 100 mile charity navigation run, ran by Nantwich Rotary Club. A fun filled day was had by all who participated, no major wrong turns happened. Special thanks to Chris in his 968, who spotted the hidden post box thanks to the BMW driver who was hiding it! Once back at the finish point, TIPEC Cheshire and Staffs were awarded Best Club Representation. The trophy looked like a Wimbledon shield! The award was received by club members Gareth, Chris and Stefanie, and has been displayed with pride at several subsequent meetings. Looking forward to next year’s event. 19th MAY – Cheshire & Staffs Club Night at The Whipping Stocks. Our May club night saw a good turn out of 20 people joining us at the Whipping Stocks for a talk about LED lighting from Steve Jones of Woodypeck. He answered many questions and has a broad knowledge of led bulbs for our Porsches. His company also manufacture reproduction Porsche 928 boot covers, which he brought along to let us see – the quality of which is as good as factory. 10th MAY – Cars and Coffee, Liverpool. Several members made it out to the inaugural ‘Cars and Coffee’ event organised by Norman Shum at his premises, the Chung Ku, in Liverpool. There was something for everyone, from 944s through to a 918 Spyder! There was also a good turnout from other marques with Ferraris, Nissan GTRs, Healeys all represented – even a nice Jenson Interceptor. Norm plans on running this event once a month. More info on our Facebook Group page. 4th MAY – Gawsworth Hall Classic Car Show. Gawsworth is usually the first show of the summer season. The event has grown considerably in recent years and TiPEC Cheshire & Staffs had 7 cars out on display. The weather was kind and the quality and range of cars present made for an enjoyable day out. 2nd – 4th MAY – Donington Historic Festival. A group of the region’s members made it out to the annual Donington Historic Festival. As usual, it was a fantastic opportunity to see classic racing machinery used in anger round one of the best circuits in the UK. 26th APR – Cholmondeley Arms Sports, Classic and Vintage Car Meet. The sun came out for our run out through Cheshire to the Cholmondeley Arms Classic Car meet. We had a great turn-out and topped the day off with a rather nice lunch with like-minded friends on the way back… 21st APR – Club Night at the Whipping Stocks Pub. April saw 23 members turn out for a social, a drink and a browse round the car park. First time we have had sufficient light to be able to talk cars outside! 21st MAR – Run to The National Brewery Centre, Burton-on-Trent & tour. We had a very pleasant run out to the National Brewery Centre and enjoyed a tour of the facility, a particularly nice lunch and some sampling of the facility’s produce afterwards! Great day out was had by all. Also nice to Richard and Grahams’ two Celebration Targas together for the first time (2 of 9 built). 20th MAR – RS & Porsche Only Track Day @ Oulton Park Race Circuit. Several members made it along to the annual RS day at Oulton Park. It was an opportunity to see everything from quite mundane Porsche race cars through to a Carrera GT. Nice to see the cars being exercised as intended. 17th MAR – Club Night at the Whipping Stocks Pub. 25 members turned out to hear a talk from Peter McIlvenny, a Director of Carole Nash Insurance. Peter offered some really useful insight into the world of classic car valuations, and how best to structure your insurance policy to fit your needs. As a club member himself and a past owner of a 928, he was a welcome visitor to our March club night. 27th FEB – Pub Grub Run to The Yew Tree Inn, Bunbury. Our first Pub Run of the year saw us visit The Yew Tree Inn (Cheshire Life Pub of the Year). We had a good turn out of cars and eleven of us sat down for a really nice meal. 17th FEB – Club Night at the Whipping Stocks Pub. 22 members turned out for our February meeting. We welcomed Paul and Steve from Elite Auto Projex along as guest speakers. Their Bolton based business specialise in all manner of quality bodywork and paint refinishing. They gave an interesting talk on paint types and some of their recent projects. 15th FEB – Dubfreeze Show. February saw a late entry for DubFreeze at the Stafford Show Ground. Gareth and Stef were displaying their VW Scirocco, and Graham Copestake had his wife Liz’s recently restored Mk2 GTi on display. Both cars looked stunning. Much to our surprise we were allocated club stand space right by the main door to the show. We had a constant stream of interested passers by including TV personality Fuzz Townshend (Car SOS), who made his way through the autograph hunters to our stand to check out our cars. 20th JAN – Club Night at the Whipping Stocks Pub. January’s club night was a social gathering of some 18 members – something of a record for Cheshire & Staffs at that time of year. Great to see some new faces that have recently joined. Hope we have made you feel welcome. 4th JAN – Ashbourne Run with Lunch at Monsal Dale. 2015 got off to a roaring start with our Peak District run out to Ashbourne and the surrounding environs on the 4th January. Our New Year’s run out had 7 Porsches led by a VW (Gareth & Stef did a great job organising the run, but their 944T wasn’t ready to come out to play in time). The morning frost and ice ensured that a few of our group woke up quickly at the first bend out of the Whipping Stocks car park, but aside from that we all had a really enjoyable day out. The lunch at the Monsal Head Hotel was lovely (if a bit slow), and views across the valley very impressive.
