We now meet regularly at The Flying Fortress on the FOURTH Tuesday of each month. Our meetings start at about 7.30pm, and at least one of the organisers will normally be at the venue from 6.30pm onwards and will look forward to welcoming you. Excellent food is available from 6.30pm. (Just click on the link below to see a sample menu).   You don't have to be a TIPEC member to come along and see what we are about, but you do have to be a Porsche enthusiast!

Meeting Minutes

Tue, 24th Jun 2008

Our first meeting at our new venue, http://www.theflyingfortress.co.uk/. was everything we had hoped for. Eighteen Porsche cars containing some of the nicest people you could wish to meet gathered to kick-start the rejuvenated Anglia region. We were pleased to have our Chairman, Sean Smallman and Eric Finley the Gruppe Central Director in attendance, as they were able to help us meet-and-greet existing members and interested visitors.
At about 7.30 we all crowded into the room provided by Keith Allchin our host, and the ‘formal’ bit of the evening got under way.
Agreeing wholeheartedly with our Chairman that we don’t do ‘Parish Council’, the chat was kept to a minimum. Introductions were made and a quick questionnaire, concerning the wishes of those present for our future direction, was completed. Two new membership application forms were filled in and sent to Dave for his attention. (Welcome Trevor and son Matthew, also Tim and Ali Foddy). And then we all dived back to the carpark for one of the things we do best.

Yes that’s right, plenty of chat and still more ‘tyre-kicking’.

We had picked-up on a suggestion from NORLON region that they would like to have a run to the Norfolk Coast sometime in July, and to meet up with other regions on their way. So a few emails and phone calls later and plans were formed to put to our second meeting on 24th June.
We had learnt from two or three members at our May meeting that they would be unable to join us in June, due to other commitments, so with fingers crossed we waited.
We shouldn’t have worried, the day was bright and dry and by 7.30 we had twelve excellent examples of the best that Stuttgart has to offer gracing the carpark. Bryan Parsons brought his very immaculate 1987 911 Targa TURBO with less than 30k on the clock. And Patrick and Claire Wigg came in their very tidy, if thirsty! 1989 928S4. We hope you liked what you saw and will join us again next month!

Shaun Crosby came in his concours yellow GT3 and at the end of the evening left us with the wonderful noise of his exhaust note, ringing in our ears!

During our ‘group discussion’ bit of the evening, Norlon’s plan was talked about and at least six of our members will be waiting at the ‘Fortress’ at 10am on Sunday 13th to join them in their run to Great Yarmouth. More on that in the next issue of AT.

We also agreed to start a ‘windfall’ club similar in style to that run by South-east region. All Anglia member’s names will go into the hat each month, but you can only win if you are at the meeting!

From the response during the evening it would seem that our National Event at Gaydon on August 3rd is going to have a very sizeable contingent of Anglia members present. We’re hoping to make a mass entrance as Sean has promised us ‘regional parking’ just as long as we all arrive together!

Our future plans include a trip to the Northampton Balloon Festival on 17th August. When we hope to meet up with other TIPEC regions for what promises to be quite a spectacular day out.

The August Bank Holiday has a local show at Lavenham pencilled in. More details at our July meeting or email or phone either of us for further details.

Our first two meetings have been full of very nice people and great cars. We’re learning to ‘walk’, please come along and help us to ‘run’. Your ideas and input is vital. Your next opportunity to contribute is on the 22nd July or the 26th August, at The Flying Fortress, Mount Road, Great Barton, Bury St. Edmunds IP31 2QU.

Looking forward to seeing YOU!

Tue, 20th May 2008

New venue - The Flying Fortress (Bury St Edmunds).

We have been having a lot of interest shown in response to our new venue change and hopefully with the recent spell of good weather this will make for a good start to our new 'Anglia' region and venue launch. Please come along in whatever transport you have (doesn't have to be a Porsche although obviously ideal) and have a chat with some like minded people. This is a family club so anyone is very welcome, although pub age restrictions apply and entertainment is not guaranteed for very young members for these meeting at least.

Tue, 1st Apr 2008

This was again a small gathering despite the glorious weather but did see five Porsche's in the car park, including Tims recently upgraded track machine. This stunning 993 engined Carrera 3.2 now stops as well as it goes following a necessary brake upgrade. Keep an eye out for it in your rear view mirror!

As is typical of nice summer evenings, a good proportion of the meeting was conducted in the car park although there we no passenger trips as is sometimes the case? Having said that it has been a while now since we have seen some rarer pieces of kit. Joe if you are reading, how is your 356 coming along?

Events Discussed

  1. Potential meeting with the BMW Club (East Anglia)
  2. Possible meeting with local PCGB group
  3. TIPEC 2008 Gaydon- British Heritage Centre
  4. Le Mans Classic - 2008
  5. Silverstone Classic - 25th - 27th July

Tue, 4th Mar 2008

This was a slightly different meeting from normal in that we had Sean (TIPEC chairman) come to visit our Region, unfortunately he brought the bad weather with him! Not to be unexpected this time of year but a shame none the less as we had a total of zero Porsches adorning the car park :(

A relatively quiet meeting with a few absentees but it was very nice to chat with Sean and Keith (another new member to the meeting) about this region, together with a lot of the other standard car banter. It's not often you get to see the chairman face-to-face (particularly as it requires over a 300 mile round trip) but it was really pleasing to here how well other regions are doing and to discuss the long overdue changes with ours. So, it's too early to announce here right now but please watch this space to find out where the new centrally located venue for future meetings will be held for our region.

Yes, you did hear that right, a CHANGE of venue that will hopefully make the meeting even more accessible to both new, old and perhaps even 'yet to be' members! Unfortunately it might mean a slightly longer distance for some but surely getting the engine more than just warm can only be a good thing. Anyway, once confirmed we will update the information here and it will also be published in the next issue of 'All Torque'. If you haven't already seen the new and improved club magazine then take a look at the 'Publication' section of the main Web site for a couple of back issues.
